Looking for some honest info..

It could happen...IF its found out that Rangers did breach tax laws and IF we cannot pay the decided fine HMRC decide we owe.

Its all IFs and BUTs....but as said many times, none of us are experts, neither are the pundits like phil mcgobsh.... and his likes, or the kerryfail accountants slavering at the thought.

So we all need to wait and see what happens. Rangers have said many times, they and their tax laywers and experts do not believe they have a case to answer. HRMC obviously believe they do or they wouldnt have raised the issue.

So.....it could happen, or it could not happen.

Also, no-one knows how much or how little cash Mr Whyte has...some papers say Billionaire, some say just successful business man...not even Millionaire.

So we dont know what will happen if Rangers lose the case.

1 question mate

if craig whyte had a decent amount of cash lets say 20mil? why would the latest jelavic payment of 500k be over a month late??

it was paid last friday

if you c my post on the celtic board, personally i dont think theres a chance in hell Rangers will be totally wound up.

worst case scenario is some administration etc, a-la portsmouth.

i just dont know all the info as deliberatly ignored most of the nonsense media about it. kind of becoming a bit too much to ignore now tho lol

_bhoy67, says who? Rangers said there was no late payment.

I guess you only believe whats said in the papers when its detrimental towards Rangers. If anything bad is said against Celtic, its called Media Bias and ant-Irish bigotry!

A month late?!?! it was due on the 31st Aug...A Wednesday....and was paid on the 9th Sept (9 days later)...according to Rapid.

How do you know this is Fact? there is not 1 quote from their chairman or manager, just a "reports in the Austrian press".

Seriously bhoys, I know you cant face the fact your skint neighbours have dominated the last 3 years, but wishful thinking isnt fact! Fact!

The club could go into administration should they lose the big tax case.

The outcome to this is in November, however it is widely expected that whoever loses will appeal so it will likely go on for another year. Magic for all the Kerrydale accountants and tax lawyers who frequent these boards and the phone ins.

One thing i'd like to point out. Rangers are arguing over HMRC attempting to retrospectively claim back taxes that at the time we did not have to pay. There was a loophole, Rangers (and many other clubs) exploited this and changed their operations when the loophole was closed. HMRC are now pursuing this.

For me that's pretty dangerous should they win. Imagine how you would feel if they changed the speed limit and then fined you for doing 70mph last week on the M8?

Because of the nature of the claim, I cannot see how Rangers will lose overall. I look forward to several lhegal ehagles explaining why I should be worried.......

Its nothing like that m8. My dad is an accountant and he was asked by a client about the EBTs years ago, while Rangers were doing it, and he advised his client to avoid as EBTs are supposed to be loans, and always have been. Any money paid in these schemes is supposed to be paid back and there have been no changes to that, ever.

Exactly CelticDavie,

Brian Quinn wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

I think this says it all.

What's an EBT Davie?

That's Brian Quinn, once acting deputy governor of the Bank of England.

I think he would have known a thing or two.

Employee benefit trust, what Rangers were using to pay their players. So Rangers were essentially loaning their players their wages and avoiding PAYE.

Sorry im not very good at this tax stuff, can you explain how anyone (football club or not) at anytime, do not have to pay taxes? And for which reasons?

I have to pay my taxes, you im assuming have to pay yours, why club pays theirs etc etc.. so why during that time didnt rangers fc have to pay taxes?

Again, im not good at these things sorry! lol

Cheers for explaining. As I said other clubs have used this far more than us. I know that Arsenal did and they settled early to avoid court, but other's in the EPL have done too.

The only way I can see us being liquidated is if Craig Whyte chooses to do so. If we get put into administration HMRC would only get a percentage of any debt they claim (as they did with Portsmouth). The only debts we'd have to fully pay would be the football ones, i.e. wages and transfer fees.

This is a mess, however it's Whyte's mess now and we have to trust him to sort it. He has sanctioned signings and contract extensions so until the worst happens i'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I find Bain to be a duplicitous egotist. 6 months the club was fine, now he thinks we're doomed. If we are it happened on your watch Martin. You have some cheek demanding money from the club that paid for your house and Tommy Sheridan tan, you were a failing model before Rangers.

Bhoy-My understanding was that the rules were changed. For example if you pay 20% tax and they then increase it to 25% you'd pay 25% from then on. You wouldn't pay the difference before though.

Davie has pointed that he believs it's an EBT and this is different. I know nothing about tax laws so cannot argue.

Good enough for you?

HMRC would also fine Rangers upto and including £15million if found guilty.

You are correct about administration repayment percentages and so on, but the fine imposed by HMRC would be paid in full.
