'I'm really surprised a thlhe amount of casual racism flung around on this forum'
I haven't seen any 'racism'
Unfortu a term that is banded around far too often these days and heavily used to try and shut down any kind of conversation of this nature.
If you're referring to peole in tolerating islam for example. That isn't racism. Islam is Na ideal, not a race. You could, for example, despise Islam (or Christianity for that matter), it doesn't make you 'racist'. It is not a race.
You would be discriminating against someone for their ideals, not anything to do with their race.
Anytime someone disagrees with someone, they are just branded a racist. So much so that it's almost desensitized it now. A racist is an appaling outlook and is in no way connected to someone's view points about a set of ideals or morales.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There are several things very wrong with this post.
Islam is not an 'ideal', it is a religion. There is a very, very big difference between those two things, and they are best not confused.
And it is possible to question, or even dislike, Islam without disliking or discriminating against Muslims. You seem to be suggesting that by despising Islam, a person would be by default discriminating against Muslims, which is also false.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You've misunderstood what I meant. Your last paragraph is exactly my point. Disliking Islam, for example, isn't a race issue.
Religions are founded on a set of ideals, essentially. We could discuss it in further depth and I would be happy to but the point is that religion isn't race and disagreeing with it, is to disagree with a belief, set of ideals, principles and morales, not race.
If someone hates Islam, even to an extreme point. They aren't racist, which was the point I was trying to make. Debating religion, in particular Islam and just getting shut down as racist, happens far too often.
Apologies for the state of the posts as well, on my phone and in a meeting so trying to be reasonably discrete.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Your point about a hatred of Islam and racism being two different things is correct.
There is no word to describe a hatred of Islam of which I am aware. People use the word 'Islamophobia', but that extends connotations of a hatred of Muslims, and as I've said above, those can be different things.
Islamophobes who hate Muslims also are not necessarily racist; they more often than not are, however, and regardless, they are unquestionably misguided bigots.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ye I just have an issue with people banding racist around.
People have a right, whether I agree or disagree with them, to question, criticize and debate religions, morales etc. As long as it is done peacefully and with as much respect as each side can afford each other.
I would never entertain someone having a discussion about skin colour being relevant.

So many comments about how Corbyn will be revelling in this and how "this has been coming for a long time".

Don't you think 'this has been coming for a long time'?
I certainly do. It was just a matter of time before loons on both 'sides' started attacking each others 'people'.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There will most likely be an increase in t it for tat attacks now by idiots who thing they are representing the masses.
This could get very ugly and a lot worse before it gets better.
As stated earlier for what it is worth, the people in Ireland stand with those of the UK.

I very much doubt it's anything other than a minority. Plenty of comments saying this is what Isis want and parroting a lot of the good comments on here gives me more faith in the human condition (and the daily mail comments page)

People are unable to see that we are watching a proxy conflict between two in their thinking near identical sets of far right extremists.
Violent Islamists are bloodthirsty, bigoted, close minded political extremists who believe in monoculturalism, the delivery of justice through (legal or otherwise) corporal and capital punishment, the curtailment of rights and liberties, a police state headed by an authoritative figure, a return to the conservative traditions of a misremembered past, etc.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well Jamie smedley at works brother In law was a victim of the Manchester bombing and he's carrying on so yeah we will carry on.
It's sad to see people on both divides now trying to stir up hatred
One of the most disturbing things I witnessed this weekend was certain left wing people trying to make out the government was part of a cover up with the Grenfell tower by refusing to say the exact amount of people dead yet it would obviously take a lot longer to identify just how many actually died
It's probably to be expected but the left are now going to try and claim as many political points as the right usually do. JK Rowling is now trying to make out that the right wing media are treating this guy differently to if he was a Muslim despite the evidence that those newspapers didn't.
Instead of bringing people together the divide between the left and right is getting further apart and seems to be all about petty point scoring than any real attempt to heal society
Don't you think 'this has been coming for a long time'?

"I fear that this country is heading for dark, dark times, fuelled by people people on the Left preaching tolerance and understanding at us, whilst being the least tolerant people you will ever meet."
Metro
"This country has always had migration and by and large, its always been successful because the numbers were manageable and people were able to assimilate"
This isn't true at all. Those who migrated over here from India, Pakistan and the West Indies from the 50's onwards faced dogs abuse when they came here. They also settled in areas together, such as Brum, Bradford and Leicester and kept themselves to themselves. It's only after a generation or two that "assimilation" took hold.
