Scholes was a better footballer than Gerrard and Lampard IMO. Scholes would control a game all on his own. Everything would go through him. As soon as he got on the ball the forwards and wingers would be making movement knowing full well Scholesy would have the vision and ability to find them. The likes of Ronaldo, Rooney and RVN, Cole, Yorke etc thrived off Scholes. Gerrard yes a very good player was more a Roy of the Rovers style player but found it hard to dictate a game. Lampard was behind the other two
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's another argument that Scholes and Lampard always had very good players around them while Gerrard more often than not didn't, so he would have found it harder to shine.
In his playing days he wasn't as appreciated as he is now... He is a good player but he isn't the best of his generation.

I can see an argument against that though. You can also shine in a poorer team yet get shown up in a better team. Look at how many players perform very well for their respective team then move on to a better club only to wilt under the pressure

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The trick is applying the right equation to the question. Somebody said from next year Liverpool would have finished above United 3 out of 5 years. The fool above referred to winning the league in 2013. However including the year in question going back to 2013 would be six. ie. 2018 2017 2016 2015 2014 2013.
It's really not that difficult to count five years.

If Sol Campbell was so good...
He would have left Spurs to win trophies.
If Paul Scholes played around today, he would win more awards. Social media has played a key part in the likes of Kante winning player of the year. Everywhere you turn now we are bombarded with stats.
Scholes was never a media favourite.
England's mainstream football media doesn't really care for midfielders who play a certain distance from goal and with their brains, rather than "putting themselves about".
For someone playing a bit further forward, it all becomes about goals.
And if your own media don't go around drumming your drum, then others aren't going to start sitting up and paying attention.
