Yeah even I can’t defend Alli at the moment. He probably should have been our Coutinho - sell him after the 17/18 season for a high amount so we can reinvest heavily in other places we need. Especially as Son was starting to blossom around then.

Son would be better suited in a 433 as an inside forward moving in the area between the opposition fullback and centre back.

Not sure there would have been that many willing to stump up an insane fee. This is one of the problems with Levy, he significantly overprices his players, which makes it difficult to make those sort of decisions.

Don’s article is grate. It cracks me up how he goes mental over Levy for not signing players - especially unrealistic ones - but doesn’t say a word about Mourinho.

I hate don so much, only bloke on this forum I’d like to slap

He doesn’t really understand anything about football - while Levy has been bad at investing in the squad he always bangs on about how we are one of the richest clubs (unfortunately there are still 4 richer than us) and forgets that we chucked a bill on a stadium for the future

Yeah he’s an absolute moron.

PSG lost 0-1 to Marseille. There were five red cards at the end of the match.

Only the French would call that a fight

Careful. Neymar will punch you for that attitude

posted on 13/9/20

Oh I get that. It was just so pathetic. At least do it right if you’re gonna punch him.

Yup, so many footballers do half-hearted stuff when they know they will get hefty bans. I wanna see Ron Artest/Jermaine ONeal in Detroit kinda stuff

Just had to look that up.

He should push for Man City and break Shearers record and win trophies. Easy.

He isn’t good enough to break shearers record unfortunately.

Most the things u see on mourinho is he doesn’t have clear patterns for attacking play etc which most of the top teams nowadays do. He seems to want/allow the players the freedom/creativity then also want to pin them if it doesn’t come off.

posted on 14/9/20

Most attacking patterns of play are individualistic - even Pep has said it is his job to get the team to the final third and then it’s the attackers job once they get there - but everything I’ve ever read about Mourinho is that the coaching is highly focused on defensive positionIng, and exposing opposition weaknesses. There’s not enough focus in the training on developing the team’s own attacking strengths.

Regardless it’s great to have the football back with a bit more riding on it (from a personal point anyway).

Just takes a lot of touches and is a poor passer - as demonstrated by the counter when he had a million chances to pass to Kane. Our best ever football was when Dele played on the left - I genuinely wonder if he provides more than Son
-----

Without arguing the main point, if the counter you're referring to is the one I'm thinking of, Kane got his run all wrong. He not only closed down space for Son by drawing both defenders into Son's potential shooting line, but never really provided him with a clear passing line either. Son's choice to open it up for Alli (?) was the best option Kane left him with. Even if he might have pushed the ball wide of the defender at the last moment for Kane, the latter was moving wide of the goal whereas Alli (?) had a far better shooting angle and a clearer path towards goal.

Interesting, what run do you think Kane should have made then?

Why I disagree (this may take a bit of work). I think there were two clear points when Son should have played in Kane.

Scenario 1 (best):
https://ibb.co/jZL8VSJ
Son opens up his body and plays it in front of Kane; allowing him to make a run himself to free up space (Kane competent passer of the ball) or allowing Kane to essentially have a heavy head start over the defender while having the ball in the centre of the park just outside the goal

Scenario 2 (second best):
https://ibb.co/cJjxDm5
Slotting the ball for Kane to hit (drag) with His left foot across goal which is a type of goal he has scored hundreds of times before.
His first against Leicester being the perfect example.

By the time the pass is played to Dele he is completely surrounded and does the best out of a tough situation

For ease the goal in question is around 1.27

posted on 14/9/20

Yeah he hesitated. Alli should still score, though.

posted on 14/9/20

I don’t really agree, he was surrounded by defenders and running at full pelt. It was a pretty tough chance and the xG gurus back that up attributing it with 0.13 xG which is pretty low.

Doherty missed a bad chance for us actually, I’d forgotten about that

But he set himself very well, I still think he should be scoring and putting it bottom corner. Pickford has short arms so it would have been harder to save. I agree the Doherty one was a much better chance.
