We've signed Ox and Keita away from other big teams that wanted them, but it's not just about that is it? VVD and Lemar wanted to come as well.

Keita is not here this season. Ox I personally view is not an upgrade on your team, neither is Salah (good for the squad).
VVD is who you needed and Lemar would've added real quality. But they didn't come.

Every transferred player is tapped up, everybody in the game knows they've been tapped up, and that it's been done through the agents, but by adding a quid to the release fee, it was tantamount to saying publicly “Yeah, we tapped him up, bite us”.
I personally didn't care, but if you’re going to get sensitive about our owner asking what Arsene’s been smoking, how was doing that any less disrespectful?
Offering £1 over the value of a 'secret' clause is not common. I'm fairly sure that it has happened once so it warranted a different kind of response and got one.
