By the way, who was the WUM? The total eff wit has got to be Stretty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Arab and Python were really kicking off about his signing if I remember rightly.

Tbf Python was low on methadone that day, gets a bit cranky on those days, otherwise he'd be his usual pleasant, happy go lucky self and welcome matic with open arms.
Arab - 'I don't want that donkey at my club'
The best thing about the Matic signing is Stretty after the games defiantly trying to claim he was dross when he plainly wasn't.
Did Stretty acknowledge his forward pass assist to Valencia? It did go forwards a bit.
I still believe that Matic looked average at Chelsea because of Kante.
Kante is brilliant, but in my view, you either play Matic in that role or not at all.
He ended up playing more like a box to box midfielder from what I saw.

It was a somewhat boring midfield... No matter how good either might be, individually.
Now it's all about showing he can maintain this level and perform in a similar fashion against better opposition but his early performances have certainly confined my initial doubts about him being able to get back to a good level to the dustbin.
Maybe he's not quite as pro-active as he was at Benfica but he's shown he's no slouch so far.
I'm still quite irritated by the fact it took so long to bring him here.
He's been a revelation. Hope he stays fit and keeps it up

I think that the general feeling was that he was overpriced and that his form of the last few seasons was worrying. The signing just felt underwhelming. However, I (and others) did say at the time that he could be just what we need to get the best out of the more attacking players. So far that seems to be the case. Very happy with how he has started.
............
That is pretty much where I was as well.
I have been very surprised at how easily he has slotted in.
Long may it continue.

Yep. Happy to be proven wrong.

"We gave him a contract because we think he is a good player, an important player, he is just in a team where I think in this moment (Nemanja) Matic and (Marouane) Fellaini are in the best form that I have ever seen them.
"I never saw Matic or Fellaini play so well, so he is in a team with these two guys playing absolutely phenomenal, so for Carrick and Ander it's just patience because that time will arrive and they will be important players for us for sure.
"That's a team, that's a squad, we can only play with 11 guys."
So Carrick is important. We just have to wait until Fellaini or Matic plays worse.
