And what was that based on? Where she was from and her race

................

Where she was from. She said this in the report.

Nothing about her race.

Yes, it means what it means.
And in Australia it means something different from what it means here.

======================

It means the same in both countries.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah, it doesn't.bin one country it's offensive l. In the other country it isn't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It shouldnt be offensive in either

========================================================
No, it doesn't.
In Australia it means Pakistani, and is used with affection. It is not meant to be insulting (any more than 'Aussie' , and nobody is insulted by it.

In the UK, it means south Asian generally, and is used as an insult. It didn't start out as an insult, but was picked up by skinheads and given an insulting connotation, which it has never lost.

And if she had been white from South African heritage? Would he still have done it do you think?
=========================

Have you never spoke to anyone in another accent? If they had done it in an irish accent would people be crying as they are?

I’m new to this thread after a busy day but can I assume Stretty has had a mare again?

Some words have a different level of offensiveness in different countries

That is obvious

.................

Yes and no.

He has made some valid points on the pc brigade and how racism is perceived when often none is there.

Sadly he has spoilt it by being Stretty.

==========================================================
It's not offensive to me, I'm not of Asian origin. Nor am I holding you responsible for anything ( defensive, or what?)
I'm just informing you of the difference in meaning of a word in two different places.

It carries those meanings whether you like it or not, no single individual can influence it. You can look it up, and you will find the same explanation.

You can decide for yourself that you want a word to have a different meaning, but you'd be p1ssing in the wind, because words are common signifiers whose meanings are arrived at by consensus. Without that consensus, they would have no meaning at all.

Stretty is a fecking idiot.

One of those 'Go back to your own country' mugs. Who invaded more than half the world? Great Britain. You think some of those living in them countries won't have somehow end up back Britain as a whole?

Indians and Africans helped British troops in the wars. Some were invited back to live in England.

Britain invaded India. Stole the money, gold and trade. Britain has done this with several countries. You uneducated, ignorant fck

Surely by now everyone on the site knows that Stretty is 'special'.

What’s your point? How is it relevant to now.

Indians and Africans helped British troops in the wars. Some were invited back to live in England.
——

Yeah then we invited half the planet here as well.

Britain invaded India. Stole the money, gold and trade. Britain has done this with several countries. You uneducated, ignorant fck

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’m fully aware, it is however not relevant to the here and now.

The Office analogy with Mr Jervais being cringey and unfunny is the way I see this latest FA related issue.

For me, if a person feels put upon, we need to respect that view.Especially in a workplace, where we have to behave like friendly, rational adults.

In the future, perhaps Aluko can take the rise out of daft FA staff, or the funny regional UK accents👍

The FA is simply just not fit for purpose in 2017.

Time for major reform - here's just one example; the "weight" the four home nations hold over the laws of the game. Indefensible in this day and age.

There's a million other reasons, too. Somer have been alluded to above.

No stop bytching about being called lazy, or having industrial language being used, its football male footballers get that all the time, so you bytch about not being treated equally to male footballers, but when you are you bytch even louder. Welcome to your equality.

Plenty of people here haven't read about the whole situation. The Manager was cleared in two flawed inquiries. It was only in the third that they fired him. This after the female player's name was dragged through the mud.

The FA knew they messed up. They tried to buy her silence.

To which she took the money then spoke out. Hypocritical, in some regards.

Would probably have done the same. Career in tatters, name dragged through the mud. The FA deserve it.

Huh? Do people just spout whatever rubbish comes into their head?

The FA sacked him based on a safeguarding report in a previous role he held in club football, which actually concluded that he was fit to continue in management.

In effect due to social pressure, and the pc culture we live in, the FA were desperately looking for any reason to sack him... because they couldn't find any evidence of racism or foul play during his time as england manager.
