Racism hasn't increased since the 90s like some people like to say, its just more visible mostly because of social media.

As for the kneeling, maybe people don't want a political broadcast before a sporting event.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe if idiots didn’t bring racism into the game in the first place the semi political topic of racism in football wouldn’t be brought up.

It’s funny watching race being equated to politics & BLM despite racism in the game happening way before BLM were even founded or thought of.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Waaaaayyyyy before the kneeling and BLM riots, people were getting thrown out of games and banned from attending for racist actions.

To through it back, what good do you think the kneeling has done?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yet racism in the game is still happening, and appears to be increasing, especially on social media. Hence the continued actions and words of players, particularly those affected directly.

The amount of debate it’s created shows it’s having some affect. The fact that a simple action creates such outrage in some but the racist actions of idiots is ignored & deflected from proves the need, for those taking part, for it to continue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As you pointed out, racism appears to be increasing. Perhaps partly due to BLM, kneeling and all kinds of perceived racism? Aunt Jemima, Uncle Bens, snowflake warnings on triggers, etc, etc. Add on to that about 95% of white people have been called racist in the last 2 years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Increased racist abuse is down to increased protests across the world against racism across all aspects of society including football. Ok then. This has an air of ‘If that girl wasn’t wearing that short skirt she would never have been raped’ about it.

Basically the calls for better equality regarding race has obviously brought out the out and out racists. That’s the thing about them. They don’t like being told they can’t be racist knobheads. Not a bad thing in a way. Makes identifying racists easier. See kneeing does do something positive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow! That some kind of leap!!

Protest against racism around the world? What? In predominantly white countries you mean?

I agree that racist don't like to be called out. We see it all the time. It goes along the lines of, "Black people can't be racist"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just taking a similar leap as you with your “ racism appears to be increasing. Perhaps partly due to BLM, kneeling and all kinds of perceived racism? Aunt Jemima, Uncle Bens, snowflake warnings on triggers, etc, etc” comment.

Unless there’s anything to back this up?

And now the whataboutery starts

BLM have a problem in that anyone out there can claim to be BLM and/or acting on behalf of BLM.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Like any movement some people will use it to further their own ambitions and others will just lie about it without any actual knowledge of issues.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Could you outline who and what BLM group are and what they want?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Come on now, it’s almost a year since I patiently explained this all to you bud in one of the longest posts we’ve ever had on this site.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My point was, we are debating if BLM are a party, society, movement, lobby etc Still?

It is not unreasonable to ask why group BLM do not put folk and policies forward, is it chum.

I mean, if you seek funding and followers, transparency is essential.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We’re not debating whether BLM are a party a society or a movement or a lobby. That was immediately clarified after someone erroneously stated that they were a political party.

I previously outlined to you in detail what BLM want, correcting a number of errors from a spectator article that you used as a reference point.

Go onto their website if you wish to understand what they want. What is the value in having yet another ja606 user explain to you what BLM want?

And the players taking the knee have already stated publicly that they’re not aligned to BLM the society, so I am bemused as to the relevance of BLM to the topic of discussion.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok.

Did you actually look into their policies yourself?

No, I didnt and won't.

Looking up facts will stop me from believing what I want to believe so no thanks.

Imagine being of the opinion that calling white people racist is the reason racism has increased. So if you call me a murderer, I will kill you and then its all your fault.

Genius.

Naah, social media doing a good job of bringing out these cretins.

We don't want to drive them underground like they were before social media.

We want them to come out so we can smash them live and set an example for the little kids.

When you have black MP's saying the focus on race is enough and black footballers saying kneeling should stop, perhaps it's time to re-evaluate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Black players at Rangers spoke to Gerrard and decided against taking the knee recently, as have other black players.

We can oppose racists and racism without BLM groupthink.

BLM are a political movement who alienate people, imo.

I would not boo a player taking the knee and I would challenge, report or counter a fan making racist comments at my teams games.

“ You stated it was increasing. I just followed your lead. The reasoning I gave was preceded by the discourse marker 'perhaps', so the examples were given as possibilities”

Within the game it’s safe to say it is increasing, especially on social media behind anonymity. Agree or disagree?

I also think we’ve gotten slightly better at calling out what I would call “casual” racism. So while 20 years ago many people may have used another word to describe going for a “Chinese” (as in food) that’s much less acceptable nowadays, a good thing IMO.

Reminds me of a kid who came to our door guising and went with the joke set-up “what do you call a Chinese tellytubby?” My dad, who as folks will be aware declined an MBE from the queen for his work on tackling racism in Glasgow, shut the door with no sweets for said child.

Or just don’t be racist no matter the medium you use to be so
Tok simple obviously, I agree it is clearly more visible how much more or less there is I wouldn’t know never suffered from it so no “internal measure”
I’ll happily support any Rangers player who chooses to take the knee for as long as they feel it is necessary
----------------------------------------------------------------------
👍👍 as would I.

Has anyone ever really said this?

It would be convenient for your point if they did, perhaps thats why you said it,

Agreed.

I think its been a long process from forced labour centuries ago and now confronting unconscious bias and the likes. Attitudes have changed for the better.

In the game? No
Social media? Yes. Partly because it is so taboo and people are d!cks
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So part of the reason people are racist on social media is because its "so taboo", not because they are racist cretins? Basically its not their fault, they were made to do it by racism being so taboo.

We've missed your input.
