Many of those in the strategic interest of NATO?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
By that logic, Russia has every reason to be concerned about NATO and Ukraine.

Mate don't tie yourself up ok knots

NATO has never and would never invade Russia, it's a threat to it's imperialistic aims not the country itself

'No one wants war. But"

^ This is already a very blase attitude towards war.

Couldn't even keep 2,500 troops in Afghanistan and now the Left on here want us to fight an actual war against Russia.

You lot bored from the pandemic or something
----------------------------------------------------------------------

‘The left’ 😂

Please don’t be so basic as to make this a left/right thing. For all your many flaws I thought you’d at least try and aim higher.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s low to make things a left/right thing? Ipso facto you are low too as only a day earlier you said that you don’t have anything against ‘the right per se’.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Cough cough, last night saying NPE made Ukraine left v right.

So tired of the UK getting involved in others conflicts.

Many issues at home and we spend billions on other mess. Time for this little country to get off centre stage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This war is going to cause issues for us regardless, oil and gas specifically. The oil barrel today went more than $100 for the first time in 7 years because of this conflict.

Actually oil has been buoyed by tight markets and under investment for about three months.

Granted Ukraine conflict tipped it over 100 but it was historically high anyway. OPEC + keep missing raised output targets.

posted on 24/2/22

On gas - that is more directly Ukraine related but also reflects Gazprom cutting export growth, creaking energy infrastructure and the fact renewables has generally underperformed this winter. It reached £4 per therm in December before Ukraine crisis.

Ukraine is exacerbating issues in both markets but both would be high regardless. Much longer standing factors.

Anyway back to my slumber from here. Just got triggered by an oil take.

Russian stock exchange now down 45%. FTSE 100 down more than 2%. Oil at $102.80 a barrel, up 6%. Gold up nearly 2%. Polymetal shares down nearly 40% and Evraz down 30% on FTSE 100. German Dax down 3.4%. French Cac down 3.1%. A grim day.

Just what the ordinary working folk needs after a global pandemic. Well done Russia

I find it interesting the references to the Iraq War being supported by “the left”.

A cursory glance at the voting on it shows quite clearly what can be described as at most mixed support among Labour back benches, downright opposition from SNP, Lib Dems, SDLP, and overwhelming support from the conservatives, the DUP and the UUP.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Parliamentary_approval_for_the_invasion_of_Iraq

Also the equivalence of responding to the request for military support from the independent sovereign country of Ukraine which is currently being invaded, and an invasion and occupation of Iraq under the pretence of WMDs and “war on terror”, is frankly astounding.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think NPE is referring to a group of left-wing British journalists at the time and groups like Labour Friends of Iraq.

I don’t think he has said that it was a majority left-wing support or anything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ah didn’t realise it was that particular poster, I saw a thread of comments. I’ll withdraw as I have no interest in engaging with that poster.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am painting a bedroom in East Belfast for a Rangers man, so will try to you is Russia left wing query later, mate...snowy here btw🤣

I would say initially, Russia and Ukraine share nationalist and old fashioned traditional views and both are quite racist and xenophobic, plus homophobic...Russia is no liberal social democratic utopia, but that is where extreme "left" communism has to be analysed too, imo.

Always say, far right and far left are two cheeks of same Erse, mate.

And the left right labels are now pretty useless, as u am both, so what am I?

A C....🤣

Putin isn't mad , he's planned this for a long time

he's got all his bases covered

built up a huge reserve of gold to fund war,

not bothered about western sanctions, because the west has lost its economic power now....china, his mate, is now were the trading is to be done

this is a geopolitical shift of epic proportions

is this where the west loses its pre-eminence , and the shift of power moves east to china-russia
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Russia is of little interest to China, strategically or economically.

There’s one superpower in the East, and they’ll bin off Russia when it suits them, which may be very soon.

Look at NATO borders before and after 1997.

Going leftfield, why did Ukraine not join NATO and EU before...were they blocked or missed the boat?

And Putin asked Clinton if Russia could join NATO in 2002, but was told no, you are too big and independent, apparently.

Putin is a rocket, and in last few days appears unhinged, as normally he is sly and cautious.

But we should not femonize All of Russia and Russians or skip into WW3 easily.

Right now, the London Stock Exchange is trading shares in Rosneft and Gazprom, which directly finances Putin’s wars. There are powers to suspend these. There are powers to impose emergency punitive regulation on our offshore financial sectors. If not now, then when? 2/2

Iran interfers in neighbouring states and uses proxy war tactic across middle East, so we really should go in there too.
