Scary speech from putin he’s said a lot of rants over the years about the west but that was the strongest and angriest and most threatening yet

No idea if these secret black ops teams you read about in books actually exist but surely it’s assassination time now

Ukraine submitted their application to join NATO. I suppose the fear of a nuclear event is real.

posted on 30/9/22

1) Why submit it now and not like 6 months ago?

2) Does this bring us closer to a ceasefire? E.G Russia ends up with the 4 regions and Ukraine pulls out but in return Russia let’s them join NATO thus preventing any future invasions / land grab attempts because NATO would invade?

Very optimistic imo.

But its obvious why it wasn't done because they didn't fear Russia using WMDs and maybe never thought that a Russian defeat was even possible.

Jenius, by Russian defeat, do you mean a defeat of or by Russia?

posted on 30/9/22

A Russian defeat. I think the best Ukraine hoped for was a stalemate and a long drawn out conflict along the lines of Afghanistan.

posted on 30/9/22

But didn't Putin threaten the use if nukes early on in this conflict? That and their newfangled hypersonic missiles?

posted on 30/9/22

Indeed. I think that was a bluff hoping for capitulation. Its a very different situation now though. imo conscription is a tacit admission that they are contemplating defeat. Ironically I think Russia would be happy with what Oscar suggests above. But will the Ukrainians agree to it and will the US?

NEW: I understand “multiple” Conservative MPs are in talks with Labour in Parliament to defeat elements of the “mini-budget. Particular focus on 45p rate. Focus is on sending a signal to markets.

Only takes around 35 Tories to rebel for defeat.

There are always going to be crackpots on the Internet who believe Joe Biden violated Tara Reade in the crowded halls of the Russell Senate Office Building, or that Hillary Clinton ran a sexx trafficking ring out of a pizza parlor in Washington DC.

They're crackpots. Ignore them

India and China are 50% of the world. You want to destabilise the most populous countries? What for? Without Russian oil the world cannot function. So unless you have some other source of every manufactured item or services you need to wake up.

Beeb:

‘The European Union has agreed to impose emergency measures to charge energy firms on their record profits.

Ministers have agreed windfall taxes on certain energy companies as well as mandatory cuts in electricity use.

The plan includes a levy on fossil fuel firms' surplus profits and a levy on excess revenues made from surging electricity costs…

EU ministers estimate that they can raise €140bn (£123bn) from the levies on non-gas electricity producers and suppliers that are making larger-than-usual profits from the current demand.

Earlier this month, the European Commission's vice-president, Frans Timmermans, said that fossil fuel extractors will be told to give back 33% of their surplus profits for this year…

The cash raised is expected to go to families and businesses.’
