I think you were exempt from NS back in the day if you went on to further education, which back then meant you had been to Public School or had an IQ of 140

It only ran for 11 years from 1949 - 60. I'd guess that there's very few people actually experienced it yet alone carted off to the glass house for desertion or whatever. This is just people that never had to do it telling younger generations what's good for them because 'back in my day'.

Well Annie, i did experience it and plenty were carted off to Colchester or Shepton mallet
, wouldn't have missed it for the world,got a trade and a bit of travel.
