Just read the Reform manifesto. It’s actually pretty good in fairness to them. Not that I agree with anything other than 5% of what they’re saying nor do I think they can back up any of their promises but in terms of being simple and appealing to the brainless voter out there who needs something to get excited by in a world where the tories and labour seem like two cheeks of the same ass it’s quite alluring. Might just make them a minor force in the elections.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The IFS analysis of it.

https://ifs.org.uk/articles/reform-uk-manifesto-reaction

'Spending reductions would save less than stated, and the tax cuts would cost more than stated, by a margin of tens of billions of pounds per year. Meanwhile the spending increases would cost more than stated if they are to achieve their objectives.'
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s absolute baloney, it really is.

The problem is that a not insignificant proportion of those whom Reform are chasing won’t even be able to spell ‘manifesto’, let alone worry about what one is.

And a further swathe won’t care as they’re only interested in registering their protest vote against what they see is as an unconservative and/or failing Conservative Party.

Reform could drop any old populist nonsense in there really. And they have.

Reform may as well claim they'll abolish Income Tax and build another 500 hospitals and a 1,000 new schools in the next 5 years if they get elected.

It's like me saying I'll give everyone on ja606 £1m if I become a Trillionaire before the end of the decade.

Just wait until we start using neural links with animals and giving them speech. That's a Pandora's box that is gonna cause some real reassessment of our approach to food and animal welfare. 😬

Sorry to bring football to the thread but I think this ties in with wider politics.

Across socials I keep seeing videos of various nations fans at the Euro's in Germany. There's the Scots fans playing bagpipes and having a laugh. Or thousands of Dutch fans bouncing right to left arm in arm. Then there's England fans. OK there's the odd video that's funny, 'you're shiite but yer birds are fit' to Swedish fans. Sadly this is followed by 5 videos of '10 German bombers'

Why do we have to portray ourselves internationally as cvnts? I mean the people singing it, at best, had grandparents who fought in the war. To them it's something glorified on film or through abstract stories told by grandparents.

It just comes across as a bunch of EDL knobheads on a beano abroad making us look shiite to the rest of the watching world. Similar to tragedy chanting in the PL isn't it time for a campaign to stop songs like 10 German bombers etc. Perhaps understand it may not he seen as harmless bants to other nations. Not to mention current events geopolitically and singing about bombing just being crass.

Anyway rant over

Because your averge Ingeeerlishh football fan abroad doing this type of thing on the streets abroad during tournaments is usually very dense, ill-educated, xenophobic, socially inadequate and under intense peer pressure..... and very, very drunk.

Thousands of England fans go to the big tournaments and only a small minority are total knobheads.

The media aren’t really interested in family groups who enjoy the experience without causing any trouble or insulting the locals

This isn't the media, it's mostly on socials. I'm sure the algorithm on various platforms isn't set to 'portray England fans as knobheads compared to other nations'.

Maybe it's my age, not that old but old enough, but I just think the examples of the Dutch & Scots' fans looks fun and a good laugh compared to chants based on war and vitriol.

I've seen videos of Scottish fans talking with German fans about how they have a common enemy. I don't think it's just limited to England fans, it's just the videos of the idiot England fans are more likely to go viral through either rage bait or being shared by other morons here.

It's party time for most of the english fans, it's just those with little nubbins that act like they're billy big bollox and they are embarrassing. It's a shame that all English fans all get tarnished by the minority who cannot handle their bevvy and allow their inferiority complex come to the fore.

Totally agree about certain chants, they literally make me cringe.

I may have mentioned this before but I went to watch England play Poland at Old Trafford and the bloke next to me. Was urging people to boo the Polish National Anthem on the grounds of “We fought a war against these baaastards”

I pointed out that the Poles were out allies in the war, he told me I knew fek all about history .

The UK’s main stock market retook its crown as Europe’s most valuable for the first time in nearly two years, data shows.

The total value of companies listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) hit $3.18tn on Monday, overtaking the $3.13tn total value of companies listed in Paris, according to Bloomberg data.

France has just called an unexpected snap election. That does things to your trading.

You might want to take a look at what the LSE’s total market capitalisation looks like now vs 2015, and then measure that against how New York, Paris and Frankfurt have performed.

He was obviously referring to Bolesław the Generous lending his troops to Danish king Sweyn II Estridsson for the ransacking of York in 1069.

He's done you up like a kipper (or more likely a pickled herring) there Boris.

Let's take a complex issue and boil it down into a straight yes or no / for or against polarised debate.

Pretty standard these days. Polarise the electorate with simplified arguments and then wonder why political discourse is at its lowest levels and far right ideologies become more prominent.
