He’s making a good point, to be fair, especially in a country that imports more than it exports. If the buying power of the pound goes down but your property price goes up, you’re not necessarily in possession of a valuable asset when the cost of everything eats into that profit on price increase.

Why would anyone want the value of anything they own to go down?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Farmers would sooner see their land reduce in value, especially if it's been in the family for generations. You've made it quite clear you don't give a fig about farmers.

posted 2 weeks ago

That depends on what you're going to spend the money on when you sell it.

Do you mean tax dodging farmers like Jeremey Clarkson and his ilk or real farmers?

To an extent, but when essentials like food, water, energy and medicine go up in price massively that is bringing down the value of a property in real terms, which is the point he was making, and that’s before talking about increases in interest rates on borrowing, costs to run a vehicle, use public transport/services and tax increases to cover the costs of all of this.

Try and stop justify yourself in making assumptions about people you have no idea about.

More worryingly is the fact you have some kind of need to mention me, whereas I can’t even recall a single one of your comments, far less make assumptions on them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Clearly skirting the question. It's not an assumption, it's based on the comments about housing (from both sides of the argument) prior to my comment.

Try not to take it so personally, I said people "like" you purely as in the exchange you came across as the type of person who, doesn't see an issue with the housing bubble because it's an advantage to you and others born at the right time.

If it bothers you that much, you're welcome to explain how your view actually differs when it comes to state spending and the effects of the housing bubble.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

“Try not to take is so personally”

When you refer to me in person?

Aye ok

What a massive caaant this chap is.

Why would I say to anyone on here as to whether I’d want my house to go up in price or not based on my statement that many, many people have counted on any gains as part of their retirement plan?

Don’t you ever think things through before uttering your “facts” or just try and come across with misplaced superiority labelling people who disagree with you as being “thick”?

In any event, why would I want anything I/we own to decrease in value? What a childish and quite ridiculous notion.

My reply still stands, every person who intends to sell their property to fund their retirement will have an individual plan.

Selling up and moving abroad has certainly become harder because of Brexit and the value of GBP will certainly affect you if you move overseas and you are planning to rely on your private and/or state pension.

That above is meant for this Factchecker person who for some reason also wants to try and quote me when I’m not on the site (and also get it horribly wrong).

Facts eh?

I think he deliberately tries to baffle everyone in his quest of portraying intellectual superiority.

It’s sadly misplaced.

But all of the examples I’ve given apply to the majority of people selling their properties, which are relevant to the point he made about relative value.

The questions/statements made on the thread were more about people using their homes as a pension plan.

Ultra-Orthodox Jews (Haredim) are projected to become a majority of Israel's Jewish population by around 2059, based on current demographic trends. This is driven by their high fertility rate of approximately 6.6 children per woman compared to 2.5 for other Jewish women, leading to a growth rate of about 4% annually.

I can't remember who the guy was who derailed the thread so much Admin decided to make me OP but it feels like from then onwards there's been someone with very similar opinions making about 20% of the posts on here

Everyone's plan is different.

If you're planning to downsize I can't see outside influences like currency fluctuations making any differences to your life that you would experience if you didn't sell your original property

But that’s only one part, why are you ignoring the other impacts? He was talking about the country going to pot, and the examples I’ve given are a huge reason for it, and they’re tied to a property owning political class that are artificially inflating the housing market, whilst reducing their tax burden and putting back onto a middle and working class that cannot afford it.
