A bizarre claim noone made

“But there is no doubt that having a guard on board would help deter criminals operating on trains”

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Jesus Christ.

Im not talking about dealing with armed klillers, and have made that perfectly clear as you well know. Im talking about muggers, pickpocketers, women botherers, drunks, gangs of lads, whanchors, and the like. Plus people on board (other than the driver who is locked in this cabin) who have radio contact with authority when incidents like this do happen which is very rare. And... this railworker had not been on board this train God knows what else would have happened.

Mate... It's Winston
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So we can all agree muggers and gangs of lads are no danger to passengers? WTAF?

Post Office campaigner Alan Bates has agreed a multi-million pound compensation figure from the Post Office, sources close to the deal have confirmed to the BBC.

Deserves every penny, as do his co-accused.

I just hope it isn’t coming from the public purse as both the Post Office and Fujitsu are private companies

Nobody hunts deer with a shotgun.
They were hunting quail.

I’ve got cameras on my house.

It won’t stop a gang of committed burglars but it will deter casual thieves

I can somewhat understand the logic to be fair to Reform, I think they're saying if you have a 22 year old graduate and a 30 year old both applying for a job, you're going to pick the 30 year old because he has experience.

However the solution to that problem can't be "let's just lower the 22 year olds wage"

The question instead should be why is the guy with experience earning the same money as someone fresh out of university?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They're talking about the NMW for young people. Those under 24, your 22 year old, will be paid less than the 30 year old applying for the same job.

So they're sacrificing the youth vote.
Good strategy.

Bring back the YTS scheme for trades, we're screaming out for tradesmen. 5hit money but guaranteed 2 years of apprenticeship.
1989 I got 12 weeks pa block release college a basic toolbag of named tools and govt paid my £27.50 a week which is £73.19 today and 8 weeks block release college £35 - £93.15 today 2nd year which my good boss doubled and kept me on for the following year on 3rd year apprentice wage £110 and a tool allowance.

Don't do it now but I learned skills that have been positive my entire working life. I know then system was abused by some cowboys but I know all the boys in my cohort had good bosses too.

Good idea. Carney may do something similar if he gets his budget passed today.

You’re not talking about dealing with armed killers… yet you’re using an incident with armed killers to try and illustrate your point?

Those were your words.

Do tell us all what ‘this’ is that you’re referring to, if not the incident this week?

Watching a gang of roofers across the street today guys on the ground in T shirts, guys on the roof hoodies and woolly hats. High wind.
I remember working on a ship's windlass in December in Quebec City. -30C and wind at 50kms. Finished the job December 31st and drove through a blizzard back to Montreal on time for the bells.
Was great to be young.

I did similar and even though I didn't use the skills in a career they still came in handy in life anyway. The issue I see is lack pf social housing, the state of private renting and the costs of living prohibit young adults from furthering independence and moving out of home.

Looks like the BBC have got themselves in trouble by editing a Trump speech to make it look like he was encouraging rioting.

Had to laugh when I saw a BBC ad the other day talking about them seeking the truth.

They have become a joke channel really.

posted 19 hours ago

Trump of all people crying about something minor like this is amazing, though.
