Thats what i suspected as i saw you say there was a pessimistic expectation of 250 deaths a day average at the worst of another wave

Which by my estimation shouldnt threaten icu capacity
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The problem also is that these figures are not reported as reasonably as 2.5% and put into context with overall deaths. No figures in the media or from the government have ever been so reasonable.

The 15 and 19 thousand numbers are another 12%-15% of our total deaths since March 2020 all in a period of 2-3 months. I think if that happens, there will mass media hysteria yet again and I wouldn’t be surprised to see another lockdown maybe through tiers or some other relabelling.

I can’t see those numbers happening anyway but I cannot see the response being reasonable at all, it will be disproportionate as it has been for over a year now. People will panic and the government will accommodate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do you think it is in a period of 2-3 months? The imperial paper certainly suggests it’ll be 15,700 deaths between now and 1 June 2022, so roughly 14 months.

Hahahahaha wooooowwww

I thought they were saying wave 3 this summer loads of deaths. That’s why I was going off on one at them!

Given the amount of posts we’ve made about this, I don’t think whoops quite covers it.

Sorry mate 😂😂😂
----------------------------------------------------------------------
😂😂😂 I’ll be honest I initially read it as this summer too!

I think what this points to though is what I was saying before about how the media have helped stoke the fires in the masses and reported things with hysteria. We’ll all remember the front pages and the news reports on tv of the third wave, and it is what triggered a lot of the debate on here. I think had it been communicated as 15k over a period of 14 months with the context of how many folk die in general each month, then people might’ve been more relaxed about what sage are saying.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Glad I wasn’t the only one. I think we can all agree that the media don’t only not help, they make things worse.

In this case my indigence is now directed at the govt for doing this roadmap for 1400 estimated deaths. Coupled with, as TT points out, the assumption on a lack of reduction in transmission after vaccines which as I understand it is wrong. So maybe more like 500-750 deaths and still restricted.

They’re overcompensating for what has been labelled as doing things too late last year.

Aye as I mentioned above one of the key diffs between this and the spectator one was the assumptions on transmissibility

So without going back into too much detail. How will there be that many deaths up until next summer? Everyone will have been vaccinated by then? Everyone will be vaccinated by what? September?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Basically I think there’s 3 groups;

- people who can’t be vaccinated (for high risk reasons)
- people who have been vaccinated but for whom the vaccine doesn’t “work” (so those not covered by the efficacy)
- people who choose not to get the vaccine (unlikely to be significant contributor to death numbers IMO but would increase transmission risk to first two groups.

You reckon everyone will get vaccine?
Seems there's a considerable slowdown in the US of people taking the second dose. Not to mention anti-vaxers.
I would think this hesitation to take 2nd dose could be the prelude to a wave of resistant strains.

I wonder if that would have been his wealth translated(?) to 2020 dollars.
You guys are up on interest rates and investment. What amount in 1880s would translate to $2 billion in today's dollars?

I don’t actually believe it but just the cynic part of myself, The cynic part of me definitely does feel like some countries/countries governments genuinely do want deaths / some of these elderly culled to save pension money £ and reduce population as it’s a good cover
