Pele only played couple of games at wc 1958 after the main striker got injured
only played couple games at wc1962 as got injured.
1970 Jairzinho was the star
Pele always played for the best team whether Brazil, Santos or NY Cosmos.
grate player tho.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Messi has also always played with a great team or great player and has played the majority of games.

BTW he played 4 games and scored 6 goals. This is the kind of rubbish misinformation I was referring to in my OP,
Pele scored in WC final at 17. But his competition was extremely weak for club football.
The two best footballers of all time though are playing right now, and it'll be quite a black mark against Messi for not being able to win 1 of the 4 finals he's been involved in for Argentina. But you can't have it all.

I wasn't alive at the time so I'm not going to lie and pretend that I know about the quality of the football but I've been told it's simply not accurate to assume that the Brazillian league was poor at the time. There are many that will tell you that it was very strong and the golf in talent is not the same as it is today between the European sides and Brazil.
Teams in Brazil were always as good r better than the European ones, certainly up until the mid 80's. I remember Flamengo destroying Liverpool in the early 80's when Liverpool were top dogs in Europe.
point being, Brazil had a better league than most think when Pele was around.

That's fair and logical My personal preference for Pele is contextual and not necessarily logical in conventional football terms.

Thanks for your insight, Sir. You're not the only one to say as much.
Pele has always been the worlds greatest player. Scoring in world cup finals at 17, and winning the world cup three times makes him the greatest ever no question.

The Brazilian league was very strong. All of the Brazilian team that played and won two world cups in 1958 and 1962 played in Brazil or other South American leagues.
I'd put Sissoko above the lot of them

Thanks for clarifying. I'm not sure how anyone can call the Brallian league but also downplay Pele'sachevements because he played for the best team (all of which came from those leagues). It doesn't make any sense. Meanwhile, Messi has also played for the best teams and been surrounded by the best players.

Pele is the most overrated player of all time.
Uses friendly goals to pad his stats, played in a garbage league and that Brazil won a world cup without him no bother.
Don't mention him with the other three, its insulting.
Many of you obviously never saw Bebe play
