Brilliant performance

Best hit nail on hard

Reading used to just pass it along the back

It was garbage possession football

This is get the ball forward has quickly as possible great to watch

It annoys me when wilko get accused of long ball.

No it was direct, get it quickly down the wings, it was brilliant to watch.

And there will be mistakes because I don’t know if anyone has noticed this, but we are passing the ball allt harder, this trying to counteract teams trying to stop playing out.

Last night was brilliant and for some fans on here to say it they didn’t play well, is beyond me

Not one fan left that ground last night, not happy and excited about the future

it’s not one big thing that makes the difference, it’s a number of things with compound effects

- Playing out from the back helps us keep possession
- our defence has less to do
- the side without possession works harder
- top fitness levels mean we can press hard and win the ball back.
- it also means players can make more runs off the ball/find space creating more options for the man on the ball... which helps keep possession.
- having a set up and mentality that encourages advanced full backs and players to interchange positions creates more options for the man in possession and creates uncertainty for opposition markers
- for this you need technically proficient, fit, mobile players with an understanding/ability to learn what positions to take up and when...
- upshot - players who gave the ball away last season have more options and therefore better stats this season, and they get more confidence which helps too
- fitness and possession improvements means we can play for 90minutes... we haven’t conceded a goal this season in the last 30 minutes and generally finish on top

Sounds simple but the devil’s in the detail or everyone would do it. This season we are a very finely polished t*rd

indeed

brilliant reading though to be fair is this... it wasn't so long ago every article was about chairman, Leeds been rubish at signing players and Bielsa being a total gamble that would never work, how foreign managers don't get promotion...

now we're all enjoying some brilliant football and any debate that takes place is actually about football matters...

Agree re theReading point. What is particularly impressive this season is that we top possession stats for the league whilst still looking to pass forward quickly. Dominating possession AND risk taking with it is not easy to achieve.

from a totally different angle ref polished t8rd... perhaps the players were right after all, and VO, AR might have got it right? - we just needed the right manager?

was a legit point tbf. we draw last night and its been a poor run of results overall.

whilst individually you can make a case for taking a point at certain places as decent.

anyway roll on

Hard to say... re VO in particular. Saiz is a big thumbs up, Klich looks like a thumbs up, Alioski will always divide opinion. Foreshaw we’ve seen little of but I do rate him.

Bielsa did chuck a large bunch of VOs choices on the scrapHeap though!

I still can’t and will never comprehend how Bielsa has achieved all of this from 6 weeks close season.

It’s incredible and beyond my understanding.

The man is a complete genius.

Strangely I think Beilsa tries to play a very simple game.

It’s not over complicated and when you add in the players have full belief in him, your half way there

He’s taken the fear out of the players, that’s why I get annoyed at idiots wanting us not to take risks and play this quick fast football out of the back

Sorry if what I posted came across as snarky, it was kind of a joke.

I agree with what you said. The lads needed to put in a big performance last night to push on from two tough games and that’s exactly what they did.

And I what’s even better, is with Bristol losing and Brentford held to a draw, we’ve got some breathing room at the top of the table.

I always felt last season and under Monk we won games but often were the worse side in terms of midfield and possession etc. This season is totally a different. We totally boss teams, its so refreshing to see.

Yep that’s the man management side. He wants them to express themselves... and provides the framework so they can.

They don’t get a bollocking for making a mistake playing out from the back... but they do get one for needlessly hoofing it into row z.

When bpf passes to one of their strikers, or pontus miscontrols a hospital pass and it costs us a game we need to shrug our shoulders and accept it as an inevitable cost of the style of play that has us top of the league.

Some won’t of course, and will be baying for blood.

we get in front in games now and you think

''great now they come out there shell a bit and get forwards more which will let us expose them and get another 1 or 2''

before id be like

oh god, here we go defending on our penalty box and surrendering possesion constantly until we finally buckle

totally agree Rich, we're ruthless... MB wants to push on and score goals... a mangaer like Pullis would just settle and take 3 points (or try to)

The performance last night just brought a smile to faces all around me, including mine. Some of the passing & interplay were from another planet compared to what we’ve been served up for more than a decade.

We’ve been through sh111t since leaving the prem, we absolutely deserve this change of performance & who knows maybe even promotion.

Absolutely scintillating stuff at the moment. We must stand by the players when errors are made though - coz they will be.

Awesome times 😁😁😁😁

Exactly... When we get in front rich, we don’t immediately take off an attacker for a defensive midfielder or centre half (which used to drive me nuts)... camp out in our penalty box and sh*t ourselves.

On a down note it looks like Stoopo is still banning me despite my apology.

Loads of positives from last night and despite the worries that we'd regret the missed chances, we finished so strongly that we had two good chances at 3-0 where players were still pushing forward.

But did think we were a little slow to start and players didn't quite connect with each other. We still play it along the back four a lot, but whilst last season they seemed to keep going along the back until they got pressured, this season it's never more than a couple of passes before the midfield have found space and we move forward.

As someone pointed out, thought that we were giving Preston too many opportunities even into the second half but then for the last half hour, we looked fantastic and likely to score every time we came forward.

Particularly liked (think it was Saiz?) rushing full pelt into their half to close down the keeper, preventing him from having an easy pass back, even though it was the 85th minute and we were 3-0 to the good!

That really summed up the difference between last season and this for me.

to be fair for 10-15 mins after half time I was thinking that very thought and they were going to nick a goal but the last 25/30 minutes we blew them away.

We are a totally different animal this season and Marcelo is a wizard for doing it.

Forget all previous seasons and failings, even if we put in half of that performance last night we will go up, 100%

Absolutely ridiculous comment LIW... there's no way it takes us as long as Easter to get promoted!
