When we signed Jose I thought it could be a great move. I thought he’d have learned from his time at Chelsea and understood the expectations of United fans in terms of seeing good football. I was wrong.
So with hindsight, no, I’d never want Jose. He’s poinsonous, short term and damaging.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But you thought he was the right appointment at the time. Cool.

You don't debate though Nobb. You filter people when you are losing.
That isn't debating.
Don’t get me wrong - I’m not saying it’s as simple as Jose wasn’t backed so it’s not his fault etc. Just that had he gotten all he wanted maybe things would have turned out differently. It wasn’t just this summer. The club refused to pay an extra fee million for Perisic last summer.
Whatever you think of the manager, if you’re gonna hire a manager without a DoF, you gotta give him full control of transfers. Especially when you finish second place to a side who’ve spent over £500 million on players in the same amount of time.
Whoever our next manager is will hopefully have a better transfer plan in place with a DoF who can get deals over the line and give the manager what he needs and when
Not all were rumours. The Napoli chairma had admitted to turning down an offer. The offer for Godin was also confirmed.

So, back to the OP.

Thankfully he was sacked before he did any more damage
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was of exactly the same opinion when Madrid appointed him, for exactly the same reasons.
He proved to be every bit as abrasive and unbearable as expected, and then mountains more, and took a villainous, cowardly approach to virtually all of the crucial games in his tenure.
A league and cup title are still the poorest trophy haul of any Madrid manager who's lasted as long in charge as he did.
Not worth it.

Agreed. Surely the majority of fans would have taken a 3rd season meltdown in exchange for a title or major trophy.
Jose did want Perisic. There was talk. Apparently their valuation of him and ours was too far apart.

I could understand the board not going for Perisic. His price was inflated for his age and he's always been plagued by inconsistency. Bear in mind Liverpool had signed Salah for considerably less that summer, and he had outperformed Perisic in Serie A

Actually, while you’re here a question for you
I’ve been watching a shiiiit ton of Spanish football since I’ve been here and fallen in love with it. Just is played with a lot more emotion than you see in other countries. But this season I’ve found VAR to be a real ‘passion’ killer in games as the stoppages seem to take out the excitement and leads to long periods of waiting around. What are your views on it? Bad for the game? I don’t think english fans know what’s gonna hit them next season.

Merry, the stumbling block was the fee Inter wanted. And since he has proven to be an inconsistent player. He started that season on fire and then his form fell off a cliff before he picked up to being average.
Most see him for Croatia and think he's class, but we've seen players like that before, better for country than club. Milan Baros being very famous one.
