On the plus side have sorted membership for me and my boys this week after letting it slide last year, and bought some games off my pal who has a ST in the south stand, am deffo on for the Newcastle, Southampton, Sheff Utd and Bournemouth games at least between now and Xmas.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Done mine but not liking this new buying tickets idea.

Hard enough getting them when they went on 1 at a time now people can buy multiple games at once when they get through
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah it’s a ball ache. Also a pain making sure you get seats together when you’re buying multiple tickets; looking at getting Palace tickets for me and my boys, which is fine as can get all 3 at once with our membership, but then to get tickets for my dad & bro in law who aren’t members you have to wait for guest allocation and keep your fingers crossed. Chances are they’ll be say elsewhere. It’s all a bit messy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ace, I often sit elsewhere from others that I go with, it is no big deal for me. As long as I get to see the game. I get though if you have a young son or daughter then obviously you would want to be together. Other than that though, I have had some great banter with those around me at games, who I have never before met in my life.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Aye mate I’m not that bothered re my old man or other adults, but I’ve got a 5 and an 8 year old so just got to be on the ball to make sure I’m with them.

Went to a Leeds match earlier this year, we were right by the south stand where the hardcore home fans are, and as we get tickets via our club we had to collect on the day; were all sat separate, was a bit of a nightmare.

I prefer not to take my 5 year old, but can’t get away without taking the 8 year old as he’s football and spurs mad, then of course the little one wants to do whatever his big bro is doing.... Facking kids!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ace, when did your eldest start getting into footy?

my Son is has just turned 4 2 months ago and is showing very very tiny glimpses of interest in football, but I ain't holding my breath!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He was about 5 and a half. Showed no interest before, then came home from school and asked if he could go football on Saturday morning. So I took him, but at that point he was painfully shy and didn’t have the courage to join in, so we just watched. I took him back the next week, he tentatively joined in, kicked the ball and has never looked back. Since the day he’s been mad about football - playing it all the time, watching it, reading football books, collecting cards etc. He just loves it, and he’s turned into a good little player.

The best thing is the way he’s grown from being part of a team. He has so much social confidence now, he’ll go join in a game with kids he doesn’t know, bigger kids etc. and he’s got a great bunch of pals at his school who play in his team with him, they’re thick as thieves. Honestly the best thing he ever did was start playing football.

As a result I’ve ended up joining the coaching side and done my FA Level 1 badge, made some great mates through it - love the coaching and the match days with the boys but also the camaraderie with the other coaches is brilliant.

Funnily enough last night Mrs Ace was on some mums school FB group and said to me ‘oh so and so is saying her boy is sensitive and not enjoying school and struggling to make friends’. When I looked at it about 5 other mums had chipped in saying the same about their boys. I said to Mrs Ace - what have those lads got in common? None of them play football, or do any other sport. Compare that to our lad and his pals, you have to drag them away from after school club as they’re all playing footy out the back and then all wanting to go over the field to carry on playing. Sport is so good for kids, but team sport especially I think.

My youngest is 5 and as a result of big brother has been playing football since he could walk. He’s left footed, and already looking like he’s gonna be a good player. He’s going up to the U6’s next season and will start playing friendly matches.

If your lad is mistreated take him along. If he’s not ready yet he’s still very young, try again in 6 months or a year. If he has mates that play he’ll soon want to join in!

Ace....it's like you've just described my life, except my work preventsme from formal coaching/getting FA badges but i do help out when i can .

Re: kids confidence, one thing i have noticed (and gives me an insight as to why this generation are such snowflakes) is so many mums saying..." i my take little X out of football because they lost last week and he got up set" or "little X made a mistake last week and got upset so i might take him out of football".

This snowflake generation is largely being driven by female no competitive attitudes (and weak male attitudes) and protecting their children from any experience that isnt totally positive.

FOotball (& team sports in particular) are great experiences for children to learn and develop all manner of skills and confidence, form bonds with others, learn to win and learn to take defeat and move on from it.

My eldest son like yours was shy and now he's a key part of a team and this has helped him in all areas.

Mind you, he is rather 24/7 football - playing it, matchattax cards, FIFA, PacyBits App (chr1st this annoys me).....it's non-stop and now his brothers the same.

At the age they’re at now the FA try to make it non-competitive and as inclusive as possible, with the focus being on developing a love for playing the game and skill, playing with the ballon the floor etc instead of being motivated by victory at all costs. There’s no league table in our league, we just play the fixtures. I’m actually all for it, the format is good - we currently play 5 a side and encourage ball on the floor, play out from the back. The league is set up in a ladder system, so if a team is getting hammered each week they can easily slip down the ladder and play at a level where they are more competitive, which keeps them motivated rather than fed up with it.

Next season we go to U9’s, which is 7 a side, same system, as is U10’s. When they get to U11’s it becomes competetive, 9 a side, with offside rule and league tables introduced. I think it’s a good system that should allow them to evolve into all our competition after they’ve developed ball playing skills at a younger age.

Despite all that, young boys want to win anyway. My team are buzzing when they win and disappointed when they lose. My son writes match reports of all our games, he knows how many goals he and others have scored, all our results etc. You can’t take that competitive edge away, it’s just there, kids want to win, they love winning, they play to win no matter what the ethos is. As long as good sportsmanship is encouraged at all times I have no problem encouraging the competive spirit, I think when you have the desire to win you take your losses harder and therefore learn more from them, rather than just being indifferent about it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Same....U9s are in a non-published league. A record is kept so it is made sure they are kept in a league appropriate for their ability (most ages have 2 to 4 leagues). Like you, kids want to win and gutted when they don't but they learn from all these experiences, without the pressure of a league table etc. This is fine by me As long as the coaches are good and the kids are in a positive environenment, win lose or draw they should be learning and developing. I have seen so real awful coaches on the side lines and their poor behaviour is so often mirrored by the kids on the pitch, and you look at them and think, these kids are just going to turn out as gobby aggressive tools when the play footy, just like their coach.

Klopp says it won’t be Liverpool’s biggest window. You wonder if they’ll regret not strengthening. As we found out, standing still can often mean going backwards. They were very close to winning the PL, you’d think they’d evaluate what the difference maker was between them and City and address it to go again.

Their front 3 have all been at AFCON/Copa America having played last season right up til June in the CL. They got lucky with injuries last year, but could be more vulnerable to them this time - again a problem we had with so many of our players being involved in the latter stages of the WC.

I guess the positives for them are they’ve got Gomez and AOC coming back which is like two new players, but those two tend to be quite injury prone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't forget they played all the way to the CL final in 2017/18 followed by the World Cup as well... that's basically two max-length full seasons followed by international summers. They'll be seriously lucky to avoid injuries this time out, particularly since they play the same front 3 pretty much every match if available.

Same here. I don't to manage because I am very demanding, and quiet a few times, I was asked to come and help the under 13s in my area with coaching specifically technical side of football, and I have seen on the pitch during games, kids transformed with very few knowledge

I love it when kids show passion and are willing to learn and practice
