Yep purely for homegrown value which is fine by me as he will only be 3rd choice.

Forgot about Gazzaniga
I don’t really get why you wouldn’t have third choice as a HG promising English keeper - teams just don’t seem to like that risk.

Yeah it's weird, would be more cost effective too
I assume we are sending our young and ready 3rd choices out on loan.
Austin is on loan already and I assume he’ll stay that way & whiteman played about 2 games in 3 years so needs games.
The other below are a lot younger.
Don’t hate the deal tbh as long as he don’t play
Yeah i don't mind this deal as a 3rd choice emergency if we don't believe our academy keepers are good enough yet.

Utterly absurd.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why?
This just dont sit right with me, you would think he would have some pride and want to go to a club were he would be playing regularly, championship instead of sitting on the bench, but that's modern footballers
I wonder how much he would be on in terms of wages
Some pretty unreliable source called wageindicator suggested he was in £45k a week at Burnley
No disrespect to the bloke but he is absolutely not a top level goalkeeper anymore. He has been pretty awful for about three years.
If he really is happy to come in and be third choice and play about five games next season (in order to help our HG quota) then fine, but if anyone at the club is thinking he can be no. 2 or even challenge for no. 1 then it worries me a lot.
Hes obviously come in as a short term number 3 to boost the HG quota. Hes a good character to have a round as well. He won't see much game time but lots of teams seem to have a 3rd keeper just in case.

This.
I’m waiting on the announcement of Dybala
I mean, I don’t think anyone is thinking he’s gonna come in at number 1 or even #2 though
Is he better than Vorm and if your answer is yes then this is a fine transfer
Club didn't need Vorm though so both were pointless players
You have to have a 3rd choice gk.
Club needed Vorm at the time though.
If he’s low wages and counts towards HG then it’s fine. It’s like Chelsea having Rob Green third choice
It’s the same reasons why Chelsea have Green & united have grant.
Let’s the younger Gks go out on loan and boosts our struggling HG quota

On recent form I'm not sure he is, but at his best then yes. Impossible to know whether he can get back to being a good keeper again. We aren't exactly buying him for his game time though so it doesn't matter all that much.
