playing a good game of football = doing stuff that makes it more likely, that your team will win

playing a bad game of football = doing stuff, that makes it more likely that your team will lose

if you go down to ten men, you usually don't win.

so if you do something that could get you sent off, then you have played a bad game of football, because you have done something that could have made it much, much harder for your own team.

this is why people often say a player who gets sent off "let his team down"

how on earth is this hard to grasp.
----
So if the ref sends off a player due to mistaken identity, has that player let his team down?
What if the player gets red carded for a yellow card offence? What if the red card helped the team win (Ole example already given, and Suarez at the world Cup another). You have to be an idiot to not to understand this point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
again, why bring up these one in a million situations? there are always exceptions to the rule.
-----
They're not one in a million. They happened and have happened quite often in the world of football. You made some weird analogies up that has never happened. Why bring in those when they have never happened?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
we only remember them because they are so rare.

the problem here, is that you guys just don't know the stats and probabilities
----
No, the problem is that you took one line and made it into this abomination without having watched the game or the incident I mentioned. If you did you wouldn't have made yourself an idiot and kept digging a hole.

I remember Rafael having a blinder against Bayern when we won 3-2 but got knocked out on away goals. He got sent off but that doesn't change the fact he was superb against Ribery and/or robben that night.

As for the article I thought Williams was excellent yesterday and looks assured. Finally looks like Young maybe retired and if anything it may push Shaw on. Really good to see and love his fight and passion aswell

Of course he had a good game.
fans, pundits, newspapers, manager all think so;
Hippo doesn't, that's his opinion, to which he is entitled.
But he cannot be surprised when not a single person agrees.

No issue at all if he was of the opinion that he had a bad game, performed badly, for whatever reasons. He's not given any kind of opinion on his actual performance though, just fixated on this weird point that he is automatically ruled out of being able to have had a good game because on another day a ref may have given him a red card.

Changing his argument to a broader 'standards have dropped' angle now because the original point just seems ridiculous.

For the last few years the numbnuts on here have been proclaiming that Rojo is 'a red card waiting to happen'.

News flash. Everyone on the field is a red card waiting to happen.

I suspect Young will still get plenty of game time for the remainder of the season. Hopefully Williams can reduce that game time more and more as the season goes on, however. Any idea when Shaw is set for a return?

Supposedly after the international break. But I think that was also said on the last international break. And the one before that as it happens.

Regardless, I really dont think Young is a massive downgrade on Shaw. And Williams looks to be quite able there too.

Yeah, that’s the problem here

I prefer Shaw there, but it’s not like he’s head and shoulders above Young. I said in the summer that ledt back was as big a problem as right back. I’ve seen nothing to suggest that was incorrect.

I think we need to add a LB to the shopping list next summer and move both young and shaw on

High hope for Williams from how hes performed since hes come in but too early obviously to make any long term calls on him.
Young is a no brainer to be moved on and shaws injury prone issues will only increase as his career progresses.

Just rediscovered that I wrote this in April:

“Brandon Williams, marauding, bravely no-nonsense fullback and lately U18 captain has caught the attention this season... MU52 will like him; he's old school.”

Was I right?

One thing that we haven’t had the opportunity to see quite yet (which isn’t a bad thing), is that he’s an honest lad and absolutely hard as nails.

You won’t see him diving and rolling around on the floor; you will more likely see him trying to run off a broken ankle, Stuart Pearce style.

Having both Shaw and Williams as our two LBs seems pretty good to me, both offer certain strengths that the other doesn't have.

You certainly were Rosso. I haven't seen as much of him as you, but I do like what I see.
I've always enjoyed your updates on the youth, and who to keep an eye on.
I'm looking forward to Gomes getting his chance thanks to your reports.

We’ll certainly need Shaw and probably Young as well if Williams is going to go round getting himself sent off every game.

If there’s the possibility that Williams could get sent off in any game (but doesn’t) then we should really think about moving him on, he has no future at United.

posted on 11/11/19

We’ve got the whole season to assess the left back situation. I think whatever happens we need to sign a left back this summer. It just depends on whether Williams is ready to play regularly as a deputy. If not, loan him out and keep Shaw as back up. If he is then flog Shaw to Sunderland.

Let's hope there is a LB out there that never tackles, so we can minimise the chance of the possibility of a ref having to check with VAR before declaring no red card.

But he wasn’t sent off so your point is completely irrelevant to people’s view on Williams’ performance. Or you too simple to understand that?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
how is that relevant? doing anything that could get you sent off is inexcusable. you have to evaluate what a player did, not how others (in this case the ref) reacted to it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Remember when Ole swiped down Robb Lee? Was that inexcusable?

When we buy the next LB, we should probably try to predict the referees that will be officicating during the duration of his contract, and squeeze the FA and Fifa for potential rule changes too.

We must make 100% sure that no new signings ever get close to getting a red card, it is the worst thing a player can ever do.

Bloody hell, what an abomination of an article.

posted on 11/11/19

I love this kid, I really do. He doesn't seem phased by anything and he just carries on playing his game no matter what the level.

The more he plays the harder it will be for Ole to ignore him when Shaw and Young are both fit. I fully expect him to have ousted them both in the not too distant future. Whether we bring a new LB in is another matter.
