No.
We're only 8 games in to the season. If we continue with this form we would end up with 58 points which isn't too bad considering the circumstances. Taking into account who we played newly relegated Blackpool and got a point, then went to Leeds which is always a tough fixture, then in form 'Boro and only just lost and we're going to have results like today. Doncaster don't deserve to be bottom of the league so we're not going to be the only team to lose to them this season.
The next 2 fixtures are going to be tough but after that we should start picking up points.
Just putting it out there really. Obviously caught Donny on a bouncebackability day. Fair play to them.
I watched the game on TV last night and felt that Scanns and Wilf would roast them at the back.
I will be there to see for myself anyway.
I don't expect to lose and we can win if we stifle their lively attack.
Just a bit disappointed today as Donny have been playing pants for most of the season.
I keep hearing about this one and that one not playing in their best position and it gets under my skin a bit.
Shouldn't we have it sussed by now?
I just read on another forum that a minority of fans are saying Dougie should be sacked. Seriously? What do they expect? I think our good start went to their heads! Let's not forget preseason we were favourites to go down.
I reckon everyone will up their performance for the next 2 fixtures and the atmosphere should make them great games.
Who is playing out of position? When Moxey came back and he played RB he was out of position but he doesn't play there anymore.
Well over the past couple of weeks I have read Parr, Scannell and Ambrose and as you say Moxey. I have never been a fan of Wright by the way even though he is a midfield regular.
I too read the other forums and any talk about Doogie being under threat is nonsense for me.
I expected us to have continued with the good start as in some ways we are a bit of a surprise package this season.
I dont see that much in this div that are too far in front of us in terms of quality, maybe 4/5.
I would say we could make the playoffs with a bit more guile. We need a bit more belief and gung ho tactics IMO
Parr is the same as Moxey that one would play left back and the other left wing but they have been playing on the right as cover. Yeah I read about Scannell being a winger or a striker?
I definitely agree with you that we have the quality to be in the playoffs this season and I'm confident we can beat anyone at Selhurst Park but if we finish anywhere above 12th it will be a huge leap forward from last year.
Have you read the Q&A with CPFC2010 on another site? Everyone seems to appreciate their honesty but some things they say does seem a bit concerning e.g. needing an average of 20,000 attendence to break even!
Yeah I must admit I blame Doogie for the outrageous deflection from Osters shot and the fact the ref didn't give us a penalty. I also blame him for the lack of good fortune against Leeds and Clyne's injury. But if he apologises profusely am prepared to give him another chance.
I would have bitten off the hand of anyone who had offered me what we have so far.
My only problem with Doog is he seems to get outsussed by other managers on substitutions. On buys and team picks he gets my vote and not grudgingly as was the case with GB last season.
20,000 breakeven seems alright given the squad we have although if we continue to improve then sponshorship should also improve which may bring it down to 19,999.
Haha 19,999 seems much more realistic! From the 20k average it seems like they are indicating that some players will have to be sold. If a team offered £1million for Ambrose I would take it. I read somewhere that Liverpool have been scouting Zaha so he might be off?
Now you mention it I think Freedman is just about hanging in there. Our eyes have been opened! In all seriousness can you imagine how bad things would have to get for the board to fire Doogie? He's a Palace legend HE decides when to leave! Everyone seems to say about the subs but other than that he is dragging us in the right direction.
Either sell some players or they are getting a bit weeweed off putting their hands in their collective pockets to pay the wages. Maybe put the programmes up to £3.75 or another 10p on the burgers etc.
Not sure about Ambrose maybe he just doesn't fit in with the plan at present, and we have enough decent players not to have to pick him.
When does Joniesta get a league start?
Hopefully we reach a point when the owners don't have to reach into their pockets and we become a sustainable football club.
I'm sure he's on big wages as well. May as well put Calvin Andrew on that list (I'll drive him to where he needs to go) and N'Diaye (don't like him either but who does?) and Dorman. That's 4 players. Maybe we should send CPFC2010 an email, we are solving all the problems tonight!
I think he needs a few more sub appearances but hopefully soon. Also KG and Garvan will be coming back.
Hopefully we reach a point when the owners don't have to reach into their pockets and we become a sustainable football club.
---------------------------------------------
I'm not too sure that will ever happen for us or any of the many, many other clubs paying riduculous wages.
It's sad to hear that we 'apparently' nedd 20k wk in wk out to break even. Kidology perhaps? We'll see i guess.
As for the wheels coming off.................Obviously recent results have been dire compared to our start but as 'cp' says, i too wouldv'e ripped someones hand off to be where we are after a few games. Donny was obviously a huge setback as these are the games that we'll be looking to win but who thought we would have got anything away at Hull? Not me. Doog takes too long to make changes imo, but hopefully timing will come with experience (hopefully sooner rather than later ).
So a few cr-p results, a few good results. Not bad overall. We're still in the Carling Cup, FA Cup and in with a shout of the League title .
P.S. Seaweed 3-1 Palace
Palace 1-2 West Ham
It's not that bad TUX it's average 20k attendence over the 23 games not every week! Otherwise we would be in real trouble. The 20k also takes into account that on average every fan spends £1 at the game. So they introduced stuff like Palace Ale, etc so that more people would spend money at games. So rather than putting the price up for the few that buy stuff they are trying to encourage others to spend their money. Since I read their comments I have been going earlier to games and been in the Red n Blue bar doing my bit. I'm drinking beer to show my support for Palace! I need to up my game if I'm going to drink Palace into the Premiership!
'Mon the alky'....
Has a good ring to it...
Unless i've read this wrongly, an average of 20k+ over 2 games (Utd at home on both occasions), let alone 23 games of a normal Championship season, would be out of our reach. Can we really match this target?
Glad your'e drinking Palace to the Prem tho bud
I'm not too sure I understand your comment TUX but it's average of 20k over the season for our home attendances. So every game at Selhurst Park has to have a minimum attendance of 20k. At the moment it's more like 14-15k so we need to attract another 6k fans to go to the games regularly OR the club has to sell players to break even.
I think all this talk about attendences should start to lure back some of the old 606ers (or maybe just the Charlton ones?)
I read the 20k attendance from cpfc(dot)org and then look for "Questions to CPFC2010" (Sorry I can't link it but it gets rejected as spam) it's buried in here somewhere. But it's quite an interesting read if you just skip to the CPFC2010 answers and ignore all the "I waited too long for a beer" (that's why I'll never be able to drink us into the PL. Sorry lads the dream was short lived! we're going to have to do it the old fashioned way and try and win games)
Mon
What i meant was basically we won't get more (rarely) than 20k per game unless the big-guns come to town. How we're gona raise another 5k ish per home game is anyones guess. That's approx 33% more people, a big percentage!
Should we have a great season plus a big investment over the summer then it's 'borderline' possible. Throw into the mix that we're in a depression (despite what you hear) then i'd say it's personally nigh on impossible.
But here's hoping
I'm with you now TUX (now beer is off the mind) and I totally agree. Which is why it is concerning because it is "nigh on impossible" to break even without selling players!
Which sends me back to my list......
As i posted earlier, players take too much of their respective clubs income. Attendances have dropped over the last couple of seasons because 'Joe public' can no longer afford it. How many grounds do we see more than half empty on the TV? Too many. It's a no-brainer but nobody seems willing to address the situation. 'If you don't pay the going rate then you don't get the quality' is the usual argument. Quite true, but SO MUCH MONEY TO THE PLAYERS to the detrement of the fans?????? Football has gone 'up it's own ar-e' and has done for a long time. I doubt it'll ever change.
I love Palace and i love the buzz of live football, but i'm off to Chichester Sat for a weekend on a friends boat, some fishing and lunch/dinner/breakfast on the Isle of Wight. That'll cost me the same as going to see us playing West Ham (inc beer, food etc). I appreciate money spent at the game goes to the club but the vast majority goes to people who basically don't deserve an Aston Martin or 2 for kicking a ball.
