A €5 million bonus if we win the Champions League. What the hell kind of simpleton have Sporting Lisbon got negotiating this deal?

Maybe they know something we don’t know and Ed’s told them he’s resigning? A man can dream.

How do people who watch him often see him fitting in? I take it based on Ole's selections he'll be a No10 but can he play a midfield 3 too. Potentially there's a lot of creativity with him and Pogba in front of a DM for example or even at the tip of a diamond

---------------------------------------------

I imagine he'll be used initially behind the striker.

For me it takes a little bit away from his game starting in a higher position. I'd like to see Ole eventually settle on a three man midfield and use him on the right of that but I can't see that happening.

With Bruno's tendency to drift over to the right when he's playing in that position, he could help improve our threat down that side and it would give Wan-Bissaka somebody better to play off.

One must wonder if this is a Pogba replacement or someone that compliments him

I've only seen highlights and a few half games of Fernandes. He looks a threat from 25 yards and delivers a decent set piece from what I've seen. He also looks to be a hard worker.

To be honest I've not been impressed watching him in a game on the few occasions I've seen him.

On YouTube he seems to be exactly what we need, plays balls in behind, makes space for himself, looks to pass forwards, makes runs into the box.

Ideally you'd have Fred/McTom holding, and Pogba as LCM with Bruno RCM then.

I think in Rashford's absence we might see them together in front of a back 3 and a more defensive mid.

I think that's what the Tranmere game was about. Stick in Bruno and Pogba for Lingard and Pereira...

Problem with the midfield is the lack of actual dm. Fred and McTominay don’t have any defensive intelligence. They’re good at closing down opposition but they lack the reading of the game that even Matic has.

Looks like the Glazers have been on the phone to Ed this week and vented their displeasure.

5m when he wins the CL must have been the deal breaker for Lisbon

Unfortunately we don't have an ideal solution for that role but yeah positonally he's better than anybody else. He's actually done alright of late too but he's still a bit meh.

That's the first issue we should address in midfield in the summer.

If Pogba leaves then go from there for anything else.

From an attacking and entertainment point of view though I could live with that for now. Perhaps even a diamond will be used with Pogba LM and Bruno at the tip. Two of Matic, Fred and McT for the other positions. Slimani, of course, leading the line up front. We would need more from our full backs though

Does the player get any money if he achieves what is listed?

I don't see the point in signing Slimani, even as an extra body.

We don't play in a way that suits his strengths and we don't have many good crossers of the ball.

Surely there's somebody out there more mobile who's profile is more in line with what we're missing in Rashford.

It's probably too late for us to start negotiating for a striker but who knows. If/when we complete the signing of Bruno, it might give Judge and Woodward a bit of swagger.

If the player is due any bonuses, they're not mentioned.

They only relate to Sporting.

As much as I'd have liked us to have signed him at the start of the window, well done to the club for actually managing to negotiate. Seems like a pretty good deal for us. Looking forwards to seeing the lad play. In a month's time we could have a midfield of McT, Pogba and Fernandes, which will be a vast upgrade on what we've had the last few weeks, with Fred also pushing for a spot.

So it took Ed a whole month to meet the asking price. Absolute cracking work once again from our CEO
----------------------------------------------------------------------

To be fair, if the reports are to be believed we’ve “met it” by building in add-ons that probably won’t materialise. But it does make me wonder why this wasn’t done last summer.

They've said we distanced ourselves from the player in the summer as we prioritised other areas which is what some of us feared.

Loving that bonus structure, very Ed Woodward.

At best €5m for the appearances, the rest looks pretty safe!

That doesn’t necessarily mean we prioritised the defence over other areas though.
