-Small and/or technique based players not able to do well in the Prem.

I would say actually the opposite its true: recently the likes of Silva, Aguero, loads of former Ajax-players thrived when most of your opponents are technically and tactically not as good as you. Only the dumb ones fail (dribble-till-someone- breaks-your-leg-Wilshire/Neymar-type).

-PL clubs (especially midtable and lower) buying topscorers and star strikers from other leagues based on historic goals scored and thinking that they all would produce the same results here.

This is my pet peve, wtf man, most topscorers end up that high because they play for the top 3 clubs in their league, where they can be in the box for 90% of a game, dont have to defend back often, dont get lots of ball high over the top, and/or have 1-2 good partner striker/wingers that draw some makers. Imagine Inzaghi at Stoke or Batistuta at Brighton...

Chelsea also wasted some of the best strikers I've seen (Shevchenko, Crespo), they just didn't fit the PL and their team, as Bergkamp, Henry failed miserably in the Serie A.

That all modern footballers are fitter than they used to be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That isn't a myth. Surely athletics has shown us that

++

yes its taught us that in 1976 the World 100m record was c. 9.8 secs and today it is c.9.6 secs.

That's how much athlete have improved in 50 years!

Super Mac would have pi55ed past most PL footballers from a standing start today... and he was a known drunk with dodgy knees.

You are using sprinting as a gauge of fitness

Lol what. You’re arguing that players form the 70s are fitter than modern day footballers, and this is the random analogy you bring up?

If he’s a drunk with dodgy knees how can he be fitter? If you still believe that he’s some superhuman that is fitter than modern day footballers despite being drunk and having dodgy knees, i’d love to know yurntheory on why that is.

It’s also wrong as well. 0.3 seconds is a good few metres at that level, so it is actually a lot.

"giroud has incredible hold up play".

That one always triggered me. He could pull off a nice flick every now and then, but every other time he was useless.

Ian Wright basically built a career on being fast and running quicker than fat drunk CBs.

Michael Owen won a Ballon D’or doing that

Brazil always play "Yogurt Burrito"

BS!

Brazil only really played like that in 1958, 1970 and )eventually without success) in 1982.

Most of their world cup success has been down too a solid defense, a midfield designed to prevent the opposition playing thru them and very sharp and accurate strikers.

Germany r historically the big world cup entertainers, scoring lotsa gols and conceding lotsa gols.

Brazils record is similar 2 more historically 'defensive' approaches like Italy and England.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Eh, Brazils record is similar to Englands

Brazil played some good stuff in 1998 and 2002

Their 94 win was pretty dull, apart from Romario

Modern shoes and tracks are at a different level. I would have loved to seen Michael Johnson do the 200 and 400m at Beijing or London.

Corners and free kicks being dangerous is a myth. Low %s in terms of goals for both

Football goes in cycles
Bad results will even out over the season
DOF’s are the way forward
VVD is on a par with past great CB’s
It’s more than just a game

VVD didn't get dribbled past for a season, or whatever it was.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Difficult for someone to dribble round you if you keep running away from the player with the ball...

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Says a person who has never really played football to any decent level.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How do you know what level I've played at?

Not a high level at all as it happens but that doesn't mean I don't have eyes and can't make a judgement on a player.

The whole stat was stupid. If a player dribbles past him but while doing so he fouls them, it doesn’t count
