Gonna jump back in here. Provocation is not a defence to an action. To say that it isn't the fault of the people reacting suggests they have no control over their actions.

Like I said yesterday, if a Spurs fan went onto Liverpool thread at the start of the season and mocked Liverpool for not having won a title for so long, what would happen?

Someone would hit back with a jibe about Spurs.

It would be the Spurs fan who started the ‘diick measuring contest’, no question.

Baffling why people are struggling with this logic.

I completely agree with Winston in that regard. That kind of thing happens day in day out on forums such as this.

And I think the person who makes the initial negative comment will be all too aware of this.

Going by Winston’s logic, no one can make a negative comment about another club (it doesn’t matter whether they refer to their own club or not), without it being a diick measuring contest. No one.

So going by Winston’s logic, anyone who has talked negatively about another club is guilty of instigating a diick measuring contest.

Everyone. Every single fan. All of us. Me, you, Winston, fields, Vidic, etc etc etc. Everyone.

Exactly. I have pointed out that this flawed logic several times in this thread. Gary Neville has a clear affiliation with Man Utd. If he is a pundits on Chealse vs West Ham and he points out that the chelsea keeper made a mistake that leads to goal, he must be instigating a Diick measuring contest with United. This logic is so flawed it is unreal.

If we accept that this logic is flawed then it undermines Winston's entire claim that Robbing was introducing the Diick measuring because Robbing's actual post refers only to United. It makes be reference (implicit or explicit) to Liverpool or any other club.

The only connection to Liverpool is that Robbing supports them. Hence Winston's insistence that people are always comparing their own club when talking about another. Without that flawed logic he actually has no case.

I think what actually happened is Winston made a simple error with his initial comment - perhaps simply due to not seeing a previous post - an easy thing to do. No big deal in and of itself. But when he received criticism of his own post, that criticism made him double down and bite back.

I am absolutely certain that if anyone accused Winston of instigating a diick measuring contest because he was being negative toward another club (even if that negativity was justified), no way would Winston accept that that was what he was doing.

Just noticed that Winston is under moderation restrictions.

Oh well.

He’ll be back under a new username in a few months or so no doubt.

Unless admin rescind his restrictions.
