Spart, I understand the fears believe me. But any pneumonia CAN cause long-term scarring of the lungs and have effects on other organs. This virus is by no means unusual in that. The great majority of people of any age who are infected by this virus have either no symptoms or recover completely. But there is no journalistic mileage in story after story of people who had minimal symptoms and got completely better very quickly.

"A risk too far for me and I suspect many others". I think this is likely to be true and I am sad about it. Can you quantify what amount of risk is "too far"? For some people now it seems to be any risk at all. They don't seem to realise they were happily living with similar levels of risk of all sorts before this came along.

This is very difficult to argue against.
It is also very difficult to keep this non-political.

If you only stick to logic and science then you'd get back to normal.

The irony is that Blue in the Face was bricking it when this all started. I remember him saying he was going to have nightmares when someone who worked in a hospital was talking about x-rays of lungs of the infected.

Quite the u-turn he has taken.

Don't get the mocking of being scared either?!?!

I am scared and no problem admitting it. I am scared I may never see my mum again. My wife is scared of not seeing her mum again. Embarrassing eh

Blue in the face, take care you are not literally blue in face. Just quoting latest discoveries and their implications. Hope I can still blow hard this time next year, there are thousands who can't blow at all but I suppose that is crap.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I am tired of scaremongering, however well articulately argued.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly

If others are totally paranoid and can’t live their life without fear or being dictated to, then you lot carry on, just don’t expect me to accommodate you in any way whatsoever, I’m not gonna change jack-sh!t In order to pamper to needs of the gullible and hyper-sensitive paranoid

----------------------------------------------------------------------

And this here is the reason people continue to die from this virus. Folks who basically don't give a feck about any else but themselves. Well done
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good for you

I bet you still sleep with the light on because you curve the bogey man is still out there

Rev, I would happily challenge you to any competition which tests cognitive ability and feel confident. Your choice of club to support for a start is an indicator. I suppose that being surrounded by the City Ground pond life has given you delusions about your ability.

Spart, as someone who suffered 2 strokes in 2017 and subsequently retired on medical ground because of cognitive impairments, I’ll have to pass on that I’m afraid

Besides, I really don’t have an overwhelming need to prove or justify myself - I’m quite confident and secure in my own skin thanks

And as regards to choice of Club, there really was no other choice - I suppose I’ll just have to live with the fact we are the last British Club to retain the European Cup - it’s tough, but I’ll live with it

I don't think we'll know just how much of a problem the Cov19 is / isn't til winter. Depends what side of the fence you're on. Me, with all due respect to those that didn't survive it I think the Governement have messed up big time and are now trying to cover their backsides.
The effect on Football (as this is a football chat room) has been catastrophic and unless you're in the Prem then you're going to struggle to survive. We have 2 x DCFC season tickets, been asked to pay for these by the end of the month (to qualify for the discount) but without knowing (a) When the new season starts (b) whether we'll be allowed to go and watch anyway. A dilema. Agree that without the crowds televised soccer is lifeless.

You appear to have switched from a personal insult as to my own cognitive ability to a self righteous defence of your own. Make your mind up Rev. If you can't take it, don't dish it out. Hope you have recovered from your strokes though.

Your claim makes no sense on its own merit, in the sense that governments love to pacify people with cheap materialistic pleasures and also is irrelevant in the sense that no one is claiming they are trying to control us.

It is clearly a more subtle argument than you are capable of understanding but governments typically like things to be more convenient for them and to avoid scrutiny and traditional barriers that keep their power in check. I suspect they may stop using the coronavirus powers in the medium term but i expect they will have the option to use them for many years to come. Much like the creeping nature of anti terror legisllation

There really isn't much else you can do in the face of such brain dead stupidity as comments like this other than to laugh

Spart, not sure what I said that was a personal attack on your cognitive ability?

If there was one, then I apologise, there was no intent on aiming anything personally at yourself

I was making a general comment at those whose view and act on the COVID-19 issue different than myself

People are more than welcome to do and think whatever they feel is right for themselves - I personally am just not going to buy into the hysteria and live my life in total fear of the ‘what ifs’

I’ll continue to act within the law and with respect to others, and that’s about as far as it goes

I apologise Rev, it was Cinciwolf who apparently is happy to kill off the old, who was insulting your cognitive ability.

Wish there weren't so many people thinking they are the next Donald Trump on here. Surely one in the world is too many.

Eh? I am the complete opposite of what you just said? I have said many times people need to stop going to anywhere crowded or come in contact with others so we can end this crap.

I think the point is that the contagion rate has continued to fall post Bournemouth Beach, which is now past the incubation phase.

Football grounds with plenty of fresh air and some social distancing will be perfectly safe, as in the risk of infection will be no worse than the flu.

The environment to avoid especially this winter, is the smaller airless fitness suites down at your local leisure centre. They keep the windows locked they're always stuffy when you walk in and ventilation/heating comes out of large vents in the ceiling. I'm sure that has been the cause of my catching the flu for the past four years or so, and that's while getting the flu jab.

The sports hall for your Pilates or Zumba class is the environment to avoid this Winter Spart!

I agree with some of that. Does appear the virus transmits slower in open air but i would imagine the problem area would be on entering leaving a stadium or other venue.

To me it just seems an obvious choice to avoid those sort of places..

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Several things to comment on here:

Firstly, I have never understood the appeal of pointing out U-turns which are, typically, a highly useful manoeuvre. It seems a bit dense to criticise someone for evolving their opinions or changing their minds. The U-turn analogy is quite a strange one when after all, most of us would prefer to avoid crashing into a wall than break our necks but leave our principles intact.

I was genuinely deeply worried about it for the first two to three weeks it was in the news and worried about people close to me.

Then, I read more widely and delved deeper into the issues and realised most of my emotional concerns were unfounded by the evidence. It is a perfectly human thing to b3 initially worried and then to read more widely and “educate” (as far lefties say) myself, and reach a newer, more credible conclusion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I was just pointing out you've jumped from one extreme to the other. I'm pleased you don't see a problem with being so easily led to an extreme. Ignorance and lack of self awareness is probably the best way to happiness.
