Bear in mind though that he's making his predictions as the season progresses, and it's easier to predict based on knowledge of form etc. So you or I attempting to predict a league table and points tallies at the start of a season is significantly more difficult than making results predictions on a weekly basis
Good article DJ.
Pretty good set of predictions from Lawro. I doubt anyone would have predicted City to have the collapse they did in terms of points.
Apart from that, very close. Be interesting to get Bittter Billy and SteveF’s opinion on this,
Yes, that is true.
It is also true Liverpool haven't lost in 3 years in his predictions
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Gabriel Luna look like they know their PL football
4 positions out of 20 correct isnt great. Especially as he was making predictions week by week
In Lawro's table it has us on 66 points, but with;
W 20
D 9
L 9
So, that's 69!!

I take your point, but I don't think that makes a massive difference. When City got done by Norwich at home, he would obviously have that as a City win, but then if they're playing Palace next week, he's still going to pick City to win, and those lost points are against his final table.
Having knowledge of previous fixtures and form will only have a small impact on his chances of predicting correctly, in the end he'll likely favour historic precedent and bookies odds over a team's performance that season.
I'm quite surprised he got Utd's score as accurately as he did given the big swing in your form over the course of the season.
All in all, we should just be grateful to have such an unbiased pundit on the BBC balancing out the pro-Utd agenda which is so prevalent across all the major networks and newspapers. God bless Lawro.
Also, he didn't predict with the table in mind. So he wouldn't have had United on, say, 60 points when they were on 40 points and just predict they would lose until the table was more reflective on reality. As Didi says, his preconceived ideas would have had an effect on his predictions, as can be seen with the Spurs and Sheffield United differences.

Exactly this.
Amazing that he didn’t predict a single Liverpool defeat even once it was apparent they were struggling for form. Dishonest to predict anything but a defeat at the Etihad in the form Liverpool were in.
Don't forget, he's living in the past !
guys, when you sit down and pure guess in august 2019 nobody will get it all right or even close!
the whole point is to be wrong so you annoy enough people to get clicks.
palace and brighton fans dont like it but its a pure coin toss every year wiht injuries and luck as to where they finish. it only take a 3 game swing to be in danger.
palace have been miraculous for years frankly. i'm surprised lawro went near them for the drop

In 3 years Liverpool’s have lost 9 games out of 114.
That’s a 92% accuracy for his predictions. Thanks for playing though 😊

Well, if you only accept two possible outcomes...
We either lose or we don't. It's a 50:50 outcome which he's got right 92% of the time.
God bless MarLaw
Predicting is more about probability than gut feel. You are never going to select Norwich to win for example.

Why would he end up with City on 107 points (!) if he was predicting as the season progresses?
I believe this table of lacrosse was laughed at when it came out and it is what it is. he and his editor were so focused on getting a reaction they never bothered to try to make it in any shape or form realistic.
we all knew spurs had a big hangover so to get the top 4 wrong and only 1 of the bottom 3 isn't great.

Predicted ‘liverpool havent LOST in 3 years‘ - now who put it in those words.....?? 🤣
But it isn't 92% accuracy in his predictions. Because there are 3 possibilities, not 2.
You could say he has been right 92% of the time not to predict a loss, but that doesn't mean he has a 92% accuracy for his predictions.
Dont think his predictions are that bad to be honest. Would love to see a comparison with charlie nicholas's on sky which would have had city winning the league with 38 wins in a row, arsenal tucked just behind them, us in about 8th place and spurs relegated.
