If you could guarantee his fitness then I think it could be a risk worth taking.
I have no real concerns about his attitude as when he's with Wales he's much happier and positive (although he wasn't great in the recent games) and by all accounts is very much looked up to in the squad and treats all the players as equals (including those who play in the lower leagues).
A younger player would be the ideal signing but I wouldn't be totally against a deal where Real pay a large chunk of his wages. I think he'd have a point to prove and would be a dangerous wildcard for us.

its interesting how Sancho has looked average at best when pulling on an england shirt (questionable tactics or not from the manager), plays in decent but not amazing league, yet people are still wanting us to pay 100 million for him.
Bale on the other hand has won the lot, played for one of the best teams in the world, fallen out with the manager, not been allowed to leave, and people have no interest whatsoever because they deem 20 million and 300k a week a gamble.
i know which is the biggest gamble for me.. and it aint bale

The fact he wanted to leave Real to move to China makes me have huge concerns over his motivation these days. No doubt he’s a talent but his injury record plus his astronomical wage which will cause a big issue with our current wage structure means it isn’t really a sensible signing or one worth taking a risk with.
We need players who are hungry for success and willing to give 100%, I just don’t see Bale being that player anymore either.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He wanted to.play and was prepared to even go to China to do so.
How isnt that being motivated?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
*He wanted to keep earning big bucks and was prepared to go and play in (facking) China to do so.
So I guess it is being motivated, not by football though.
The Chinese club were the only ones at the time giving him a life line. You can interpret it in both ways.

Not for me, he does not fit Ole's profile at all.

Im sure Norwich Bournemouth and Watford would have welcomed Bale last season and given him a game every week in the PL (when fit)
So one of the best players in the world is just supposed to take a huge (75%+) pay rise because a manager took a dislike to him? Does that happen in the real world?

pay drop*
So unless he takes a major pay reduction and joins a club with zero chance of success, he isnt motivated by 0playing?
Nah. I don't want him at United, but I think he is getting a bad wrap by some.

If he really was motivated he could have almost picked and chosen his next club but it seems he didn’t want to take a pay cut.
I’d stay well clear at this stage.
I was hoping Sanchez would stick around and refuse to move for a pay cut so we could offer him the same praise and sympathy for his attitude.
There have been numerous articles on here about "would you move to X club/rival for double the wages" or similar.... The majority always seem to suggest they would.
Yet taking a 75%+ paydrop to play football at a worse club, the majority all of a sudden are grass roots types?

He wouldn't be going to Wigan for a loaf of bread per game.

Real backed out of letting him go on a free. How many clubs have the resources to pay a fee and a world class players wage?
We’ve already got one shiiiiit Welsh winger, we don’t need another.

Harsh. Very harsh.
The kids had a huge move having just lost his father and really wasnt given much game time.
Let's not forget, among other things, Ole and co's job is to coach / improve players, especially youngsters
No one is going to give up 48 million over two seasons. its not gonna happen. he probably does want to pay but for that amount he would be an idiot to leave.
with that said would i take him? No. age + injuries are too much of a risk. risk vs reward on this one doesnt make sense.

It's like Usain Bolt being sponsored by Nike but them saying the condition is that he wasn't allowed to race at the 2016 Olympics. Then Adidas offered him a slightly reduced deal and he was allowed to race at the 2016 Olympics. Should Bolt stick with Nike and not race again? Or should he move to Adidas and continue trying to win races? 3 Olympic golds or 25% extra dosh? Hmmmm
The same example could be used in Formula 1. Sit in the pit lane for Ferrari or move to be the number one driver at Red Bull. Or such.
Facking money grabbers
has anyone watched him closely enough over the past 2 years to be able to conclude that he is still the force of nature we all presumably remember him as?
because i've read plenty of comments from people who have - ie madrid fans - which suggest that he simply isn't that good anymore (his goalscoring record for wales is identical to james' over the past 2 years).
the guy is now 31, how many explosive wingers are still going strong at 32/33? i've heard the "he just needs to get his head sorted" story about sanchez, and DDG, and others, only for it to turn out that the players has suffered a permanent physical decline.
Yeah that probably is harsh on James, calling him Welsh.
DDG hasn’t suffered permanent physical decline.
