Why did de gea get a pay rise again?

Also I didn't watch last night's game, was Henderson good?

personally i think we should have decided this summer who was our best GK, stuck with him, and got rid of the other one.

not sure how henderson is meant to establish himself as no.1 if he's wheeled out for all the duff matches - yeah, but he only did it against x etc - and i find the notion of paying our no.2 GK £100k a week (and our GKs in total over £500k a week) just to give DDG a gentle nudge quite odd.

I'd say it was a positive start for him. He looked more commanding and vocal than De Gea. Made a good save late on from a close range header. Probably a 7/10, but he didn't have loads to do.

Well, I think that Romero will be on his way before the window closes to be honest.

De Gea with all his faults is still out #1 and rightly so. Henderson isn't in a rush to take over just yet and this season will hopefully be a good settling in period where he can play all cup games and any other ones whenever De Gea is injured or been terrible.

Hopefully both players rise to the competition.

does look that way...at the moment we're paying him £50k a week to spend some extra time with his family.

me, i'd have dropped DDG a long time ago - after the watford match, if not sooner - and seen how he reacted to that, how he played when back in the team etc, and then if i had any doubts about him at all do my best to ship him out (which may prove extremely difficult given his wages).

and that is another thing, DDG is on £375k a week, best paid GK in the world, if he blunders again this season, and we replace him mid-season with dean, how on earth are we going to shift him then?

this summer, if we'd told him he was no.2, he might have taken a pay cut to move elsewhere - with the euros, and his place as spanish no.1, being the carrot. next summer, we could be stuck with him, on stupid wages, to the end of his contract.

Apparently Dave performed well for Spain in the recent internationals and he didn't do anything wrong against palace so maybe some signs that he is coming out of his recent poor form.

Something had to be done. DeGea needed serious competition.
My bold prediction this season. DeGea will be our player of the year. Yes it is a strange situation with our back up being paid so much, but I think he knows his place. So just to keep him happy. UTD have said, you wanna go after David’s neck, go for it.
I think they just want to mess up the status quo and see what happens.
Is David a cry baby, or a silent assassin. Even though we lost, he looked on it. Saved a penalty as well, which he never does.

Yep, all fair points. Will be interesting to see what happens should Hendo push him out of the first team.

ha ha ha, i for one was at least curios to see what iamme had to say on this...something something coco presumably.

though we do all have to admit that his disdain for DDG is a bit nearer the knuckle these days.

Henderson deserves his chance.

De gea has messed up so many times since the World Cup and we have a young hungry top draw keeper ready to take over

Hey, David brought this on himself, UTD now don’t owe him anything. He’s burnt through his credit. We stuck by him. Paid him very well.
He’s been one of the very best for years, even though he doesn’t tick all the boxes of the perfect keeper.
Yes Henderson wants it, good. This is the make or break season for DeGea.
I think he will past the test.
Form is temporary, Class and all that... you know.

Because for many years he was our best player and the best keeper in the world.

I would rather see GNev speak out against the owners and their lackey Ed than trying to unsettle.players at the club.

I think it's only a hindrance if there is a lot of rotation.

It's quite clear that Henderson is being primed for the future Number One, and so I think it'll be fine.

Perhaps a rocky period when he first takes over as the team settles, but it's hardly like our back four is settled.

If Hendo forces his way into the number 1 spot, which he may well do, then even if we cover half of DDG's wages we still get £150k+ off our wage bill.

Also, we played 25 cup games last season, there's plenty of games for Henderson if we get anywhere near that.

It's always good to have competition for places, but I've always felt that, especially with goalkeepers, you have a dedicated number 1 and a reliable number 2 and they both know and understand their position within the squad.

I feel like whilst having 2 goalkeepers that can effectively be number 1's might strive to improve the others performances, could it not also be a hindrance to the squad? Imo, I feel like it could be the latter, especially with the form De Gea has displayed over the last 12-18 months as well, I think that's why Henderson has stayed, but he will want/expect games I'd imagine. I think that's where the problem lies because a dedicated number 2 (like Romero was) would likely understand that games may be few and far between, whereas I think Henderson has put a real case in over the last season or two to be number 1 at United.
