Not movies but I have enjoyed The Haunting of... series on Netflix. Second one isn't as good as the first mind.

I preferred the second one but yeah, it wasn’t as scary. I was more invested in the characters the second time around.

I loved the book and the movie is a crime against it so it misses out due to protest.

The Evil Dead (original) is a must also

Is The Thing sci-fi or horror?

The Land Before Time. That big t-rex was terrifying. Never knew when he was going to turn up and and that bit where they thought he was dead then his eye opened when Sarah was trying to headbutt him was shocking. I screamed.

These were bloody massive dinosaurs as well, not some guy in a mask that some people find scary these days.

I recommend a great horror documentary on Shudder called In Search of Darkness. Goes through many of the classic 80’s horrors with cast and crew interviews. 4 hours long but hurtles along speedily.

Totally agree, I love Kubrick, but he really messed up.

The book is a heartbreaking downward spiral for Jack, the film, he is a caricature.

The Haunting is still my favourite horror film (also a hill house film). It is the perfect example of how set design and sound are better than any cheap jump scare.

"Sinister" is the last film that creeped me out. I loved "Midsommor" as it is shot almost completely in daylight, yet still creepy. "Hereditary" is quality too.

The series "The Third Day" on Sky is quality too.

The Exorcist
Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The Omen
Don’t look now
The Thing
House of 1000 corpses

Midsommer is great. Some people won’t get to the end and still love it as it’s mental but was imo well worth the time.

Saw 32 was a good one, I couldn't believe Jigsaws great great grandson was still managing to put together all those contraptions from his care home bedroom without the nurses finding out.

No real order but probably these ones at the top

Shining
Alien
Evil Dead
Exorcist
Possession
Repulsion
Halloween
The Thing

I watched 28 Days Later recently for the firs time in years, it was so bad, felt like an ITV drama. F-ck knows how Danny Boyle is still allowed to make movies, he hasn't made anything good since 1996.

The scariest experience I have had within a media setting is in VR though. The feeling of something happening just behind you is unbearable. It'll kill plenty of people over the next decade.

Also, a movie doesn't have to be the same as the book it is taken from, it's a seperate entity. Most Stephen King adaptions are quite different to their source material but there's still some great ones.

I’m not sure if it’s classed as horror but the most disturbing film I’ve seen in recent years was Lords of Chaos. Highly recommend it but have a shower after.

A friend of mine produced a lockdown made horror called Host which I reckon Rob would enjoy. It's pretty silly and gimmicky but that's kind of what you want from a horror sometimes.

American Werewolf in London
The Blair Witch Project
The Omen
Don't Look Now
The Skeleton Key
Ring (Japanese original)

I'll think of a few more...

You jest but I think the things that scared me the most as a kid were the ones that weren't intended to be horrors at all.

Was always pretty freaked out by aliens so I never liked ET. And there was another film called Enemy Mine which gave me nightmares as a kid.

Also Crimewatch.
