We should go into every season aiming to win the title and reach the Champs League final.

We dont at the moment.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
There speaks someone totally spoilt by the SAF era
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nonsense.

Its nothing to do with being spoilt. Its do with with a club of our stature and resources.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s exactly to do with being spoilt

United were the biggest club in the country when I was growing up, still had to sit back and watch Liverpool clean up year after year while we were a decent FA cup side
You probably aren’t old enough to remember those days, been brought up on a steady stream of success under fergie
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Just wrong mate

Our resources mean we should AIM to compete for titles. You cant honestly tell me we have gone into this season expecting to challenge for the title.

Bayern, Real, Juve. None of these clubs would settle for going into a season content with a top 3 finish.

Are those leagues as competitive as the premier league?

So what in your opinion should the club be doing in order to reach the CL final and win the league?

I don't think we have progressed at all under Ole, despite significant spending. We still look like a team who will be in a battle to scrape 4th, zero chance of challenging for the title, and little chance of winning the champions league.

So basically what we have been since Fergie left. I still cannot fathom have he has ended up with one of the biggest jobs in managerial football, with his lack of cv.

Posts like this make me laugh.

You make it sound like we've spent an absolute bomb and teams around us haven't spent a penny.

Teams like spurs and Chelsea have also spent money, and both had squads with players that worked well together, and we were light years behind liverpool and city pre ole, so of course we are scrapping for top 4

No, which is why I said top 3 rather than top 6.

Who’s the best manager?

Problem is we just can’t find any consistency. When we’re in a death spiral Ole pulls out great results. When we’re doing well we bottle it and the bad runs start. We get carried by wins against the likes of City & PSG but we’re Manchester United. We have good players and playing a counter attacking style of football against those with the players we have in the side will sometimes get big wins. Doesn’t really mean anything if we go through a season without being able to beat Saints or West Ham.

I have zero problem with anyone that wants us to keep Ole. But Ole is just gonna keep on Ole-ing and do just enough to keep his job while we amble along. Yesterday was his time at United in a microcosm. 2 big wins and confidence high but a safety first approach against a side who had conceded 6 goals against the likes of West Brom and Saints in recent weeks. Then after the game trying to put a nice spin on the result by bringing up the bad run last time we beat PSG as if that has any relevance to where we are now.

I don’t expect us to be peak SAF at this stage but when we do get the right manager - and that may be Poch, or as I suspect he’ll be snapped up by a more ruthless club - the difference will be noticeable.

You really are a fecking moron.

Real and Barcelona, Juventus and inter, Bayern and Dortmund... the teams you are listed are basically all in leagues with 2 teams that consistently battle it out for the league.

Its have city, liverpool, spurs and Chelsea all pushing towards the top of the table nearly every season

sorry, meant to say the best manager available.

Id say Poch is one nof the best available. I doubt Rodgers, and a few others across Europe would turn us down if we approached them.

No guarantee Poch would win the league or reach the final of the CL, only 3 managers can achieve that each season, sometimes 2

But that is where you need patience Robb.

His first full season he made top 4, noone expected any more than that, he did what he set out to do.

We can't keep chopping and changing managers ever couple of seasons, we need some form of continuity.

Will ole lead us to titles.. who knows, when you look at the squad and the players who he is bringing in he is certainly building the club for something long term.

It may take a year or 2 for some of these players to reach a potential that could take us to that level, but there is definitely a plan to get us there.

Instead of bashing the manager at every opportunity, try enjoying the ride and actually try looking past the end of your nose

——-

But isn’t that what you’re doing? (The nose bit)

Seeing the results rather than the consistency or style of play? It seems that’s what the board are doing. If they could see past the end of their nose they’d see someone like Poch won’t wait around forever and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up at Chelsea once they (probably) sack Frank.

I do see past the end of my nose just as I did when Klopp was available back in 2015 and people were like ‘no, we need to stick with LVG’.

There’s only so many of these very good managers around and if we miss out on Poch, well, it would sum up our club to a tee.

Here’s the question us United fans should really be asking - do we think we are headed in the right direction currently to build a team/squad/ethos capable of winning a title?

I think compared to Mourinho/LVG/Moyes our current situation looks way more promising.

Ole could get United relegated. And the clowns on this site would still defend him.
