That kind of attitude is exactly why the world is how it is. People would rather get even for any perceived wrong doing than pull up there big boy pants and do the right thing. Its pathetic.

Such an isolationist way of thinking, Trump polarised it with his words and actions and other countries and Govts are following suit, he wasn't the first but the most obvious.

I despair

If what happened to the Gambian players was intentional, then I can understand why they responded in kind. This is especially so if they brought it up with the footballing authorities and the authorities did nothing.

I'm just here for the members of the forum who propose behaving with maturity and not retaliating. I'm sure they practice what they preach.

History is also full of examples of 'eye for an eye' cycles leading to an escalation from a misalignment of interests into outright conflict. Of course, history is a complex thing and there are also examples of a belligerent party being encouraged by lack of opposition. In those cases, you can look at the counterfactual and ask whether the the reason for the lack of opposition was the fact that the belligerent party was in a position of relative military or economic ascendancy, and counter measures would be ineffective.

But the key point is you'd have to have a childishly simplistic view of history to draw such binary conclusions.
