It’s not really a very different ball game at all. This time last year we beat Porto. And there was very little between us and Celtic. We dominated Celtic in the cup, but again last night, couldn’t do anything with that. Then we beat Celtic at Christmas and it went titys up after.
We’re one defeat away from it being the exact same as last year.
————————————————-
I think we look much better this season. I don’t think it’s the same at all.
We are unbeaten in all competitions and only conceded 3 goals in about 15 games domestically.
Morelos has hardly scored a goal yet we won our last two domestic games 12-0.
We don’t rely on Alfie like we did and we aren’t conceding goals like we did.
Benfica are the exception to that and they are a terrific team who will go further than us in this competition.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree with all of that. Clearly performances are much improved.
But I was meaning the picture isn’t very different in terms of league. As no one will care about the performances if we have a few bad games and Celtic end up winning the league even though they’ve won games despite being poor.
League looks better than it is as Celtic have games in hand. That’s definitely an advantage, especially way their playing. And obviously chuffed with where we are.
But still want to be realistic, more so after how we fell apart last year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But it's always going to be close at this bit of the season. Just need to use the old cliche and take each game as it comes.
We're far stronger than last year and playing better, scoring more and still undefeated.
Simple as that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can’t agree it’s always going to be close. Celtic have been pisss poor but only dropped 5 points more than us.
If you don’t criticise when things clearly go wrong like tonight, and simply say trust the manager then what’s the point.
Christ loads in Ibrox criticise players for no reason. Likes of Tav and Goldson have been stupidly scapegoated and criticised for last couple years, now all of a sudden folk think they’ve turned into better players. When they’ve always two of our better players.
Last time against Benfica the players lost us a two goal lead, tonight I’m criticising Gerrard for it.
Delighted with where we are, but still going to criticise where it’s deserved.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We should be more points ahead IMO, but Celtic have managed to scrape a few results that have only papered over the cracks. They're in bits at the mo.
You're free to criticise when you see fit, as am I.
Anyway we're not going to agree on this so have a goodun

As long as we progress to the next round then draws against probably the group favourites will be irrelevant.
It would be a different scenario if we drew twice with Liege and needed a result against Benfica in order to progress.

I was accused of having my head in my sand last season when I backed Gerrard.
—
It’s interesting how many posters have apparently had faith in Stevie’s plan all along, even though so many posters were calling for his head last season.
It was camouflage. Dreepy-doon squaddie-groupies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A few aye. A few were also pleased with year on year improvements.
Either way, many will be wrong.
On this point, I have a young employee called Kyle who Zach and silver have met.
He's hard work.
His wife's dad is a Scouser but she and Kyle are session ticket holders at ibrox. Anyway, prior to kick off today he proudly told us all (and her on phone) that Gerrard could rattle her, and would probably fix her hanging ham.
My office is beautifully romantic.

Some people are overeacting to this result considering the injuries. We are top of the table on 8 points with 3 major injuries so we couldn't change anything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When your two goals up with 20 mins to go and you end up drawing, for the second time in two games it feels like a defeat.
Made more frustrating watching the players blowing out their erse for those last twenty mins.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spot on
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Seriously
It’s not a case of just throw on anykhunt
You can’t do that
Not enough experience on the bench
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's nonsense. He should have made changes. Ffs I'd even have brought on Barker just to get us up the park. In the end we were hanging on for a point. Changes were needed
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Barker wouldn’t have made a bit of difference cos he can’t just get us up the park on his own
Their second goal was class
Can you not just accept it was a fair result against a very good team?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I've already said the second goal was world class and a point isn't bad.
But the truth is we needed a change (s). Benfica made changes and finished far stronger than us because of it - and nearly nicked all three points because of it.
What would you have said had they nicked it at the death?
Before we tired we were in pretty much complete control. It then went downhill and could have cost us
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We’re miles away from last year. A different team and squad altogether
Bassey, Barjonas, etc too inexperienced
Our problems weren’t up front so no need to just chuck on Itten or Barker
Hagi’s confidence is shot
Anyway you seem to have made up your mind, as have I so I’ll still enjoy the result regardless
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Clearly squad has improved. I backed Gerrard last season after the collapse, but if you don’t recognise when things are starting to go wrong you’ve got a problem.
Celtic have drawn 3 games, lost 1. We’ve drawn too and not yet lost. One loss and there’s nothing in it.
So actually very similar to this point last year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I'm not going to get hung up on it because I'm very happy with the way things are progressing.
I can't fault the team, squad or management for how we've got to this stage and I'm not about to pick fault now. I'm more willing to trust their judgement on these things.
I'm also not going to compare this season to last because it's a very different ball game this time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s not really a very different ball game at all. This time last year we beat Porto. And there was very little between us and Celtic. We dominated Celtic in the cup, but again last night, couldn’t do anything with that. Then we beat Celtic at Christmas and it went titys up after.
We’re one defeat away from it being the exact same as last year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah.
As much as I'm still not overly confident, we're far stronger than last year.
We're ruthless just now. We're projecting record beating stats. We've got options this year too, options that seen to slot in as if they've been there all year.
This fat proddy cow isn't signing yet. But if we're this fat clear after the January run I'll probably accidently artex the ceiling.
Fact remains, their form might be mocket but they're still projecting a massive points haul. They're facing RC I believe in the league. 2 wins in 9 is pash, it's gutting that it's seldom been league games.
January is horrid btw.

If you could be ersed to go ride another bus, I’d bet eventually someone would give you a couple of cans back.
