So when was the last time a clash between 1st and 2nd was not on Sky or BT Sport ?

Can remember the TV hype leading up to the Liverpool / City games last couple of years, but this, presumably because one of them is Spurs, is on Amazon Prime.

Pi*s poor and typical money grab.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Prime probably purchased the game months ago tbf. The more broadcasters the better IMO - more competition and hopefully lower prices over the coming years.

Luckily I have Sky, BT and Amazon Prime.

Spurs are playing at their peak. Jose has gotten Spurs beyond what Pochettino could have. Win this game, and Spurs might have the belief to think they can win the title. And with a manager that has won something, they might win something.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Spurs are not playing anywhere near their peak, but they are still top, having played nearly all the big teams once already. It doesn`t bode well for the rest of the division, that Spurs still have lots to offer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Theyre at their peak right now. If Spurs don't beat Liverpool, they'll start declining. This is do or die moment. Liverpool are there for the taking. Spurs played the other top sides at a good time. Chelsea, United and City have been poor this season and yet Spurs aren't out of sight of them. This could be the season Spurs do a Leicester.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
whist i get where you are coming from, it wouldnt be doing a Leicester for spurs as we havent come out of nowhere like they did and have been up there for a number of years now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, not to the same extent. While Spurs have been a top four side for most of the last decade, they've never been a title challenger. Closest was the season Leicester won it. This season seems to be going in a similar fashion. If Spurs win tonight, or draw putting in a good performance, they may go on to win it.

If we’re going to win the league then it would take a remarkable switch in the general habits of any eventual winner. In the PL’s near 30 year history, every winner bar one has played on the front foot. Only Leicester are an exception to that rule. I just don’t think we can win the title by parking the bus and catching teams on the break. I heard Gary Neville say something similar a few days ago.

Do you even read your comment?

You say "Spurs have never bee a title challenger" and then say the closest we came?
You are either a challenger or not. The closest we cae means we were challengers?
We were literally between 3-5 points off them mostly 2nd when the title was still mathematically on, and it was the game at Chelsea 2-2, that lost us the title

Trying to re-write the history. Ask anyone who were Leicester's closest title rivals. The only reason we finished the league 3rd is because after the title was decided, we slumped. That's the season when we played our games at Wembley, after going full season unbeaten at the old ground

This bs about our football was exposed by Klopp who laughed at the journo asking him about our style of being defensive and how LIverpool play a good football style etc, and he laughed at the journo, and said Spurs play football, and the style is the same as Liverpool's and Klopp asked do you think they'll be top without playing football?
To be top we need defense and attack

Spurs have been in the CL. Challenging the title a few times and got a CL final. If we win the league, it’s through sheer hard work and effort over the last 6/7 years where we have come so close to create something special. It’s nothing like Leicester City.

I will make no prediction as I said on this evenings game. But I will make a prediction on the more important return match against Liverpool in February and that Spurs will win that match.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Return match is on 28th Jan, and it's live on BT Sports
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry should have said January.

I love how when ever Spurs do well in the league, you get rival fans always come out with “well, the other big sides are not at their best “. Spurs have been challenging the top teams in and around the top 4 pretty much every season for the last 6 years, so it’s absolutely nothing to do with the other sides not being great. If Spurs win the league, it’s because all that hard work over this last 7 years where we come so close to winning the CL and the league will have finally paid off. If city are playing s**, that’s their f*** problem. They have spent enough money to win league titles every season, so don’t give me that bulls** that the only reason Spurs are in this position is because City and Co are poorsuch a weak argument and laughable
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well said Don. Spurs are ruffling a few rivals feathers this season, that`s for sure.

Thing is though Steve, Leicester play before Spurs, and if they win, they could go top. So Spurs v Liverpool would then be 2nd v 3rd.

Agree with your overall point but it can't be denied that the rest of the top 6 are currently not at their best, we definitely aren't.

City haven't looked the same ever since the league win in 18/19.

Chelsea's new signings have yet to settle.

United are 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

Arsenal, well nothing has to be said there

Yes, I know - possibly not very clear from that.

What I meant is we were title chasers while playing our home games "away" which is a tough thing to do, and in comparison, had we played that title chasing season at the old ground, where we were becoming unbeatable, God know how much that would have helped in the title chase.

Sandy if you win the league you will deserve it.

I think Spurs are a good club which is an example how to run a club like liverpool. They have mproved the club off the field and on the field. There are some similarities between the clubs but the only thing you need is a trophy now.

Closest you came to being a title challenger, not the closest you came to challenging for the title. Hope that clears it up. Things can get lost in the language. Leicester were too comfortable for it to be an actual title challenge.

Exactly. Seems the other teams ain’t performing well when it’s fits the agenda of others. Liverpool smashed the league last season and that was because every other team played terribly all season. Can say exactly same thing for you guys then? You can’t just pick and choose when to give credit. Face is, City have spent untold money on their squad. If they are s**, then that’s their and Pep Guardiola’s issue. They have no excuse. If Spurs win the league, it’s because we would of been the best team in the division, simple as that.

I’d say Spurs are performing at the top of their game - or near enough.

Liverpool are playing at around 50% of their usual level yet remain joint top. Bodes well for the run in - especially once Thiago is fit and playing regularly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is rather hopeful and not really correct.

Spurs played poorly vs WBA and BHA before then playing really well vs City. We played a decent half vs Chelsea and Arsenal but the 2nd halves in both were pretty poor, as was the 2nd half vs Palace. In all three we allowed too much pressure and failed to show enough quality in possession.

There is room for progress.

I hope the team that performed so well vs City turns up at Anfield tonight. What has been notable in all our recent big games is how clinical we've been. That needs to happen tonight..

No team will relish going behind to us, so i expect a pretty circumspect approach by LFC tonight who will want to win but probably will be more keen to avoid defeat.

LFC won the league on merit last season. Their only real challenger City had no excuses, but LFC were so relentless that i think it destroyed City. LFC were slightly fortunate that Utd, Spurs, Chelsea were also teams in a transition with new managers, transfer bans, Ole at the wheel etc so they didnt offer much upset to the LFCs unstoppable form.

This year is more competitive because of the pandemic situation etc BUT also because these bigger teams are all improved as well as LFC not being able to maintain such very high standards (which is understandable).

It has been and will be a fascinating season to the end, i hope. despite LFCs impressive form, last season' was a bit dull for everyone else.

What utter rubbish.

The 20 mins that led up to the Palace goal was as bad as anything I've seen from Spurs for years.

If you think that Spurs are playing anywhere near what this squad can achieve then you are in for nasty surprise over the coming months.

I thought we were unlucky not to pick up a point against them last season at our place.

Seem to remember Son missing a glorious chance.

I was quietly confident about this game until today - I'm now thinking we'll lost

I think we're not great with speed and directness - especially cute balls in and around our box.

I worry about Mane and Salah.
