We are 14th.

Where would you expect this team to be to be considered doing well?

And what manager would you like to see in instead of Bielsa? Should we have got Big Sam?

posted on 21/12/20

Bielsa seems very naive and that result has been coming. Can see Leeds start to plummet down the table as historically (correct me if I’m wrong) they have faired worse second half of season

I get the argument that style is irrelevant when compared to points won.

But we are doing very well with points won. Much better than the other 2 promoted sides, and only 3 promoted sides in the last 10 years have had a better points total at this stage than us (19). So what's the problem? More points than Wolves did at this stage their first season back.

If the style wins you more points on average over the course of a season why does it matter if we get spanked in a couple of games?

Heard nothing but praise for Leeds from people I speak to. Didn't get any stick at work for yesterday's result. Burnley is the bigger game for us, that and WBA. Man U aint in our pond.

For all our naivety playing against better sides we have managed to win more points against top half sides than Chelsea with a squad of superstars. And Chelsea are yet to even score against a top half side. Maybe some naivety would help you out?

Maybe, but didn’t realise to comment on one side meant another needed to be analysed too?
Chelsea have had many issues with injuries, new players and an inexperienced manager. Forgive me if I’m wrong but bielsa has been managed at Leeds for a while and you’ve got most your squad from last season?

posted on 21/12/20

Leeds will be safe but recent results are a reality check to those who thought they could finish in European places or even compete for the league.

If you aren’t careful you could finish below Arsenal.

When we were in the championship, yes? Whilst you have most of your squad from last season when you finished 4th.

Can see Donn's and other peoples point about naivety in big games. If we played Man Utd, City or Liverpool tomorrow in another league match, would you go man for man hell for leather like we did yesterday and risk another pasting or would you be a bit more Conservative and tactful, trying to wear them down and catch them on the break ourselves? We also have to be fair to the team that we had 2 centre backs out yesterday.

Answer honestly

Exactly most of our squad are Championship players. We have all got injury problems, I would argue we have had it worse. But either way surely you can't think that the resources each manager has to deal with is similar?

Yes play same way again.

For a number of reasons. It's actually won us 7 points against top half opposition including a draw against an City. No one complained then did they. Compare that to Burnley's result playing defensively.

Secondly it's a lot more fun to watch.

And thirdly I worry about the impact on other games if we are constantly changing system.

Lastly, playing like this offers us a much higher ceiling. Sides that go defensive as a plan can only get so far and then must restart with a new tactic at some stage which often sends them backwards. If we can manage to survive and improve like this we can progress much quicker.

Leeds are looking good to rival Derby for the most most goals conceded in a season. It’s quite admirable as a spectator to stick to such a suicidal way of playing, but also pretty daft in the premier league. But Leeds should still stay up, they’ve got enough goals in them to finish around about where they are now.

if you change the style of play in that way then our players are been asked to play these teams in a way they are not used to playing in, that is something i wouldnt ask the team to as i believe it would have a real impact on ouor ability to get a result.

so im not sure i would.

Would i expect more from phillips nd klitch in their role to cover the defense, yes, but not a whole scale change

It doesn’t matter if you stay up. It’s a comment on the way you play. Teams that leave themselves so open in defence are described as suicidal, especially when they are regularly getting battered. The same thing was said about Roberto Martinez, whether his team stayed up or not.

That's all that matters for a promoted side.

Surely if we were to go defensive and struggled to win games, and got relegated that would be suicidal?

We are like Keegan's Newcastle in the mid 90's. We are the Alex Higgins, Jimmy White, David Bowie , John Lennon and Freddie Mercury of Football.
We are flamboyant and predictably unpredictable and undoubtedly the most entertaining watch in the Premier league.
Yesterday was painful for us but I have every confidence in Bielsa and the players giving us more highs than lows.

Donn, don't forget your arguing against "The Cosy Club" as named by NJS. You're not allowed to voice concern, you must agree with the clique or receive a torrent of abuse. Who cares that we were 2 down inside 3 minutes against our bitterest rivals and got thrashed 6-2and have conceded more goals than anyone. Every thing is just fine and dandy.

posted on 21/12/20

Just a personal opinion but I think the way Leeds have tackled the Premier league has been fantastic,
Forget yesterday we had Pogba, Cavani and Greenwood on the bench it’s far too early to compete with strength in depth like that with the journey you have been on, but surely it’s better to get the result you did the previous game against Newcastle than just park a bus for survival which often doesn’t work , I am certain you will stay up and build from there

posted on 21/12/20

No because that’s not what the term means. I didn’t think this would need explaining, suicidal football is a common term for teams that play this way. People used to say it about Arsenal under Wenger as well. League position never had anything to do with it.

I think you have misunderstood the definition of suicidal. Anyway no point arguing about it.

You appear to agree that this way of playing will get us the most points this season and we should continue with it?

But none of your arguments make sense. You have said we should go down the route that Graham did. But he had the same win percentage as we do now with an established premier league squad. Not a just promoted one. How will that help us?
