I think Viera was a better player than Lampard at their best but Lampard achieved more making him a better deal.

There’s a good argument for Lampard being number one on the list, all things considered.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yup, even if they were similarly levelled players depending who you ask, Lampard had double the appearances vieira did. Then all the other stats trump him too.

Yes lampard above vieira. He had like double the awards and double the appearances at chelsea. Was captain in a cl final win and the highest goal scoring midfielder in pl history. Also Chelsea’s highest goalscorer of all time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wasn’t saying that he shouldn’t be above Vieira but he’s way above him which just doesn’t look right to me considering the influence that Vieira had on Arsenal I don’t think there should be much of a gap.

Fair enough, as Donny mentions tho Lampard has a case for top spot.

with respect, sol Campbell was a free transfer and won 2 leagues and 2 fa cups and was an integral part of the invincibles. He had a long and distinguished career.

players who sign for regular clubs and do things should be judge on one basis. anyone signing for dominant subs like Chelsea, City and utd need to be judged on a higher standard.

for Henry and Campbell or Vieira they are legends cos arsenal competed and won against utd.

Cantona is legend as he turned 2nd placed utd into 1st placed utd. worst transfer ever from a Leeds perspective.

I'd ask if kante was bought when leicester were in championship. I think he was not but not sure. he should not be on the list if so it was a champ move. notbingnjes done at Chelsea deserves being on the list. his leicester days make him a top buy.

After that vvd and alisson and salah can all make a list as they have made a major contribution to breaking city's hold in the title as a majorly dominant force

I wouldnt particularly have any issue with the list as is

there are some under rated guys not mentioned.
Gilberto at arsenal.
people have mentioned ferdinand and vidic but not evra who was cheap, nor kanchelskis or Schmeichel or yorke nor cole.
or some lads like ivanovic or carvalho or robben

But Lampard’s contribution to Chelsea was massive. I’d have it above Ronaldo as far as prem signings go.

Evra, Cole, Rio and Vidic were all better signings than any of those defenders listed here.

Agree. Bizarre. Vvd should, at least yet, not be mentioned. Especially at the price he cost. Chelsea got rid of a toxic player and got the best lb in the world for 5 plus years for example, for 5 million quid

Who?

Ronaldo won United so so so many games which led to us winning 3 Premier League Titles in a row and a champions league, a ballon dor winner and cost us £12m.
No way Lampard is above Ronaldo, no chance.

His highs were higher, but for three seasons. Lampard cost £10m, played for them for 13 years and is their all time top scorer. Won them more trophies than Ronaldo did for us, and managed to land himself a job as manager on the back of his greatness as a player. It was a a phenomenal signing.

It was a phenomenal signing no doubt at all

Ronaldo was 18 when he signed for United, Lamps was 23 so was already closer to peak years physically etc.

If we follow your rationale then why isn’t Rooney higher up in the list? 253 goals Manchester United record, also played for 13 years & won more league titles.

I think Lampard misses the X factor to top such a list.

X factor? What? The article is about best deals. And Lampard got closer to a ballon dor then Rooney. So are we going for best deal? Or X factor,

I think Rooney should be higher up the list as well.

Anyway, merry Xmas.

posted on 25/12/20

Rooney would only be on the list for me for longevity.

he joined a dominant utd and it well but tbh ronaldo dominated him at utd.

I'd put Henry and bregkamp higher all day.

Some on the list is laughable

No VDS who was free and was fantastic
No Vidic for 7m yet 75m VVD on there
No Rio who was certainly in top 3 CBs in Prem history

Easy to say now that Rooney joined a dominant United, but it wasn’t like that then. We were seen as a team in decline. Back on the old 606, people were saying we were light years behind Arsenal and we were soon to be overtaken by Chelsea. We finished third in Rooney’s first season and that was no surprise. It’s partly because of Rooney and Ronaldo that we were able to turn that round and become even more dominant than we had been before them.
