Klopp did improve Liverpool every season... but Frank has only had one season, so how do you know whether he’ll improve year on year or not?
=====
Based on the evidence so far, after having spent £250m+ on a Champions League quality side in the Summer, they are several points worse off than they were at this stage last season.
Granted - the season is not over and he may still turn things around. But the weight of expectation + pressure is higher because of their transfer activity. And if their season objectives are in jeopardy, which is what it looks like so far, we all know what Abramovich will do.
Klopp never had this sort of budget in his early years and his starting position was significantly weaker compared to Lampard, who took over a side that had finished 3rd and won the Europa League. The dynamics aren't the same.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What season objectives are they incapable of achieving at the moment?
Given the situation at City and Liverpool, do you really believe Lampard is expected to take Chelsea above either of those this season?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They're not 'incapable' of achieving their objectives from a mathematical standpoint.
But, as I said, it's highly unlikely that Lampard will be afforded the time people say he deserves because of the money they splashed in the Summer, which was comfortably more than any other PL side.
To answer your question - I don't know if he's expected to overtake the aforementioned teams, but he was probably expected to run it close for a title charge. They don't look anywhere close to that right now. And if these reports that he's started to lose the dressing room are true, it's hard to see him lasting much longer.

Samir, I agree with you about the likelihood.
But if anyone was seriously expecting a title challenge from Chelsea this season then I think they’re delusional... and that has nothing to do with standards, as was suggested earlier.
If they replace him with Allegri then I really don’t see the issue.

I guess this is true. I get saying he deserves more time (I'm saying it myself), but I also understand the argument that, if giving him time were likely to yield silverware a year or two down the line, we'd be seeing better than we are at present.
True, but when you start winning everyone will be wondering why it took so long for him to be appointed. I just don’t think it shows a lack of class, like ioag says, to replace Lampard with a proven quality manager.
If the rumours are to be believed, that the board and some players are losing confidence in Lampard, then it’s the most logical decision for the good of the club.
And Lampard shouldn’t have any qualms about losing his job either. He knows how this club rolls, he’s got plenty of managers sacked himself.

You say this, but I think Abramovich was probably expecting one. Which is why Lampard may get sacked soon.
I do agree that maybe he could turn it around, and it only takes a few good results to alter the mood around the camp, as well as improve league position (especially given how tight it is). Whether Abramovich will see it that way is another matter. Right now though, it's looking ominous.

I don’t agree, ioag. Lampard’s service as a player are irrelevant. He’s lucky he’s in the job as if there was no transfer ban he wouldn’t have been offered it. Timing and circumstance were massive factors. He’s not really shown anything at Derby or Chelsea to suggest he’s good enough to be managing them. If they replace him with Allegri then I really don’t see the issue.

Yeah Daz, it's plain that we disagree. I don't think his past is irrelevant. Milan did sack him because they were utter shiiiiit.
And that was a manager that won them a league title.
Maybe one day he will be good enough. But I don’t think that is right now. And when the club and players lose confidence in the ability of the manager then replacing him makes sense. Lampard will know that better than anyone being a Chelsea legend.
They sacked him two and a half years later when Milan were 30 points off the top and 20 off a CL berth.
Yeah, which was when the Moyes Allegri nickname came about.

There's some system errors in this Chelsea set up that he had a Derby. They're still pash from set pieces and get done on the counter plenty.
His record in big games is poor really too, although he always gives Liverpool plenty of problems.
Flip side is a young squad that hasn't played together much and likely have a few that don't speak English yet. A fair few haven't won much either.
They had more posession and a 90% pass success rate today I think so a bit of confidence to take more risks would help. It doesn't seem like they all know what their job is, especially without the ball. I couldn't name their best side really either.
They've some very winnable fixtures coming up though.

With the players and resources Lampard has had at his disposal this season, there should be no reason why Chelsea shouldn't be up at the top end of the table. I'd give Lampard a few more games personally and if they aren't improving their results and league position, then he will probably end up leaving imo.

Completely classless. And totally premature too. Also, he’s not lucky. He might not have the managerial experience, but he earned the chance through years of excellent service, his comprehensive knowledge of the club’s workings, his affinity with the fans, and by ticking every other box required except ‘experience’. Loads of experienced managers crash and burn at big clubs, often in large part because they don’t ‘get’ the club. You’ve had a few of them at United in recent seasons.
He arguably overachieved last season, and this year is having to accommodate more than half a new starting team with no preseason, so is almost having to start again from square one.
So, do you bring in a club legend and loyal club servant with whom you achieved things you’d only ever dreamed of, to take on a huge task - and then bin him off the moment you have a poor run of results? They've spent massive money on some of the top end prospects around in the last 12 months and they currently lie 8th in the table. When you look at their squad and the resources they have, they should not be 8th in the table.
Granted it's a close league this time around but they should still be in the top 4 by this point.
As I say, all teams go through tricky spells so I'd give him another few games yet with a more favourable fixture run to see if they can push into the CL spots, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him go soon.
I wouldn't say it's incorrect to say the team that finished 4th last season, spent £200m+ on new players this summer etc, should be doing better than what they currently are. I'm not sure why you think otherwise.
8th in the table is misleading given how close it is and it would be ridiculous to make a judgement on that basis.
But that wasn't the point.
The point I was making is that there are reasons why Chelsea might not expect to finish higher than 3rd this season.
"I wouldn't say it's incorrect to say the team that finished 4th last season, spent £200m+ on new players this summer etc, should be doing better than what they currently are. I'm not sure why you think otherwise."
Didn't say I do think otherwise.
You said it's completely incorrect that there are no reasons as to why Chelsea shouldn't be higher up the table by this point i.e. in the top 4, when actually it's not completely incorrect.
I've acknowledged that it is a tight table this year, but it's not misleading because that's where they are. I understand 1/2 good results can alter their position in the table drastically, but like I have said, I'd given him a few more games with some favourable fixtures to pick up some results to push Chelsea further up, if not then I don't see him lasting.
I understand there probably are reasons why Chelsea may not make higher than 3rd, but I think most people were in agreement before the season starts that the top 4 teams in the league were Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Spurs. So once you set your stall out, the expectation is there I suppose.

__________
Really?! I'm not getting defensive as a United fan and if we finish fifth behind those four, so be it, but most people agreeing that was the likely top four isn't how I remember it.
For instance, not one of these pundits had Spurs finishing top four and only about two didn't have United in it.
