What's wrong with Spurs players? Ethirington and now Trippier
why is the fa so beholden to betting companies
how did they find out, are they tracking all their whatsapps?
Also apparently the odds were very low and it was likely and common knowledge that he was going AM?

The Kieran Trippier WhatsApp texts that earned him the ban from footy.
Sturrridge did a similar thing, just the casual text to like his brother or something about a potential move, FA came down hard on him too. Makes you wonder how often footballers do it and we’re just seeing those caught.
Equally I wonder how it comes out - I doubt their family and friends dob them in. Betting companies report to FA if they see the brother/sister etc. of X footballer making suspicious bets?

It's not a surprise that it has happened... probably didn't give it much thought, but in hindsight he may realise the seriousness of it.

They don't inflict pain. Nobody forces anyone to gamble.

Very quick to seek out wrongdoing and to ban profitable 'gamblers' (I prefer to call them mathematicians) but no problem with operating under questionable moral guidelines, to say the least.

Was listening to Guardian Football Weekly podcast on gambling, I didn't realise that people who would be losing hundreds of thousands would be assigned their own agent who would encourage them to gamble more. Take them to corporate boxes, Grand Prix etc to make them feel like they're a VIP and get them gambling again.
Horrible stuff, not sure how it can be legal really. Like forcing a recovering addict to have a little go on your crack pipe.

Was listening to Guardian Football Weekly podcast on gambling, I didn't realise that people who would be losing hundreds of thousands would be assigned their own agent who would encourage them to gamble more. Take them to corporate boxes, Grand Prix etc to make them feel like they're a VIP and get them gambling again.

Yep, although I think some of the machines in store are just as bad - although granted the bad press they received has led to some change there.
Go in any high street bookies on a weekday and you'll generally find people who can't afford to gamble, in there gambling away their week's money. Really sad.
If I didn't have a game myself the weekend routine would be to do the accas in the bookies themselves then head to the pub - they were depressing enough on the weekends let alone on a weekday.

My local used to have a mobility scooter parked up outside pretty much every day.
Free snacks and drinks on the table for people staying in there.
