Annoyingly I think VAR may have given that as McGuire clearly tried to play the ball, it wasn’t an inadvertent deflection. Makes you wonder why VAR isn’t being used when it’s an all premier league clash

No, phase of play starts with Maguire playing the ball. Martinelli isn't active until he plays the ball.
