Here..I did some research and need to correct something. It was always the Sooty Show apparently.
He started it and Sweep came later.
Sooty was definitely jealous of Sweep though and relegated him to a bit part player in a ruthless power grab. So.. as I said.. a bastirt.

Harry Corbett was named after his uncle....Harry Ramsden. I didn't know that.

He was married to Janet Brown that unfunny wummin who made a packet doing 'impersonations' of Thatcher.

There was a period where the country seemed to be in thrall to ‘big’ names from the US. Parky littered with them and nearly always the headliner. Smitten by fast talking, supposedly glamourous superstars. They were paid more so led a more hedonistic lifestyle and transatlantic travel and marketing opportunities brought them over here.

Think it is somewhat reversed now and in any case social media has taken over.
