Loved him as a player, not so enamoured by the support he showed to Ken Bates when he was owner.

Part of what made Leeds still the name that they are today.

Great that he experienced so much success with us and also for his country, it's not many that can say they scored for Scotland in a World Cup.

Always came across as a generous man and can only offer best wishes to his friends and family at this time and really hope that the club is able to organise something special as tribute to these lost players when situation allows.

There was planned a friendly v Bayern Munich, one wonders if that might yet happen, or how about a friendly v Newell's Old Boys, with some guest players for both sides.

I think Peter's loyalty to Bates at the time was a bit misplaced and lost him a few fans. He was never a prominent figure at Leeds after that but in the scheme of things, he's a giant of this club and we'll miss him.

As a very young nipper who just got into being a leeds fan at age of 3 or 4 in late 60,s my heros was pete and eddie. loved them both equally and have met and chatted with both on several occassions and found both to be very humble and pleasant like all of that great team i have met. Was not impressed with pete with bates either but does not take away from my admiration as a player and person.
Rest in peace Peter, you were more than just a hero

What exactly was the history between him and Ken Bates?

Completely agree, I try to not let it taint the bigger picture of a great player and servant to the club.

Another of our great players lost. One of the most loyal players we had and a tremendous man.
RIP Peter.

Our youngest ever player at the time.
Our record goalscorer, and some tremendous goals no doubt.
An absolute footballing legend for Leeds. RIP.
Just wish he had not supported Cancer Ken all those years.

Another legend gone! What a dreadful year. It doesn’t help that I am only a year or two younger than all those who have passed in the last 12 months. Condolences to Peter’s family. RIP

When you mention Peter Lorimer, you think Leeds United back in the great times of the 70's, he was part and parcel of this great Revie era, will never be forgotten, a genuine great player, and such great modesty in the man, he had literally the most fearsome shot in football. Revie will be glad to have him back up there. He joins Bremner, Cherry, Madeley, Big Jack, Hunter, and others...I pay my respects to Peter's family.

I'm no fan of Leeds (sorry!) But my memories of the tussles we had with you in the early 70s are around the battles between Lorimer/Clarke and McFarland/Todd. It was a great era for both clubs and sad to see one of the big stars of the time pass away.
Condolences from a Derby fan.

Grew up trying to copy how hard he could kick a ball.

Also, Jonty, as a club ambassador, Lorimer had to tread a careful line between loyalty to his employer and honesty with supporters.
In football, Hotshot was the best. In an era of swampy pitches, leadweight footballs and brutal defence, he put the ball in the net more than 200 times for LUFC. We used to play football on a Saturday afternoon while the radio swung off the tree, as Byron Butler and Peter Jones eulogised one hotshot goal after another until, in a moment of inspiration, I delivered my one and only hotshot and blasted the radio into smithereens.
A great footballer has left us, I send my best wishes to family, friends and posters on this site. We are all mourning a legend today.

Nice tribute on motd tonight.

Great player in his day. What a shot he had but he could also pass the ball into the net when it suited.

Feck, you take a day out and come back to this!.

Lorimer was my all time favorite, as a youngster in the stadium as soon as he got the ball I shouted hit it!..

I've learnt since he couldn't hit shots from the halfway line every time, he didn't only have a cannon foot, he could also play and was always one that did his job and did it well!..

RIP Peter!.

Condolences to Peters Family and Friends!..
