Think Henderson's approach will make Maguire and Lindelof's life easier. The willingness to come off the line (something Dave does not do) helps negate the lack of pace.

AWB was also excellent yesterday and completely nullified the threat of Son.

A couple more additions to this team and we could be in serious business.

We need Pogba fit and consistent, he is a difference maker.

Agree with all the above.

I know it's unfashionable to say so, but I thought AWB played pretty well yesterday too, and in general is showing signs of being more assured and decisive on the ball. He's a long way from operating at beast mode levels like Shaw, but I think he has improved markedly since his arrival and it's not unthinkable that he'll reach the standard we expect. (Would be good to have decent competition / cover at RB nevertheless.)

You are right by AWB. I think that was one of his best games overall for us. Defended well but also looked better linking up play. I still think he has a fair bit of improvement to make. Both positionally and on the ball but he has improved in that aspect slightly.

Imagine how many points we'd have possibly gained extra if Henderson was in goal from the start of the season?

De Gea has been a fantastic servant for us but it's time for him to move on and we should be making a lot of effort this summer in achieving that, he's never been the same since the last world cup.

All spot on. Especially re Maguire - all things considered I think he's been a good signing (and this coming from someone who was massively against it beforehand)

Coming from one of his biggest detractors on the site, Shaw has been a revelation this season. I still do not agree with what we paid at the time but he is finally repaying the faith.

Just need another destroyer next to McTominay and a creative player on the right and we are in business.

Henderson was hardly tested, although he did pull off a couple of smart DDG style saves when required to.

His positioning was decent and I’m not saying he pulled off some world class saves I am talking about his commanding of his area and coming off his line. Something we’ve rarely seen from DDG. It helped our defence massively as if he didn’t we would have been in trouble on at least two occasions

Agree with the comments except on AWB completely nullifying Son.

Son scored and Hendo had to pull off a smart save with his feet from Son because AWB was out of position. A fault that has not been corrected since we signed him.

Other than that, yes he had a good game.

Henderson is still far from the finished article. For ex he should have gone with his hands instead of feet for their goal. DDG is still the best shot stopper at the club.

Up untilwe signed the new LB (I cannot even remember his name), I was also very critical of shaw. Now he is literallyone of my fave players in the team.

Shaw seems to get better by the week, I’d given up on him at one point but he has shut up all the doubters. I just hope he stays fit. Seems to be doing a good job of that too recently.

Don't think anyone would argue against you that DDG is the best shot stopper at the club.

His game had improved long before we signed Telles.

The two saves from the exact same positions that he made with his feet, one from Son the other from Kane suggest not.

Also DDG wasn’t the finished article at the same stage of his career either.

Can only think of Robertson and maybe Tierney that are decent but neither of them have been on Shaws level this season.

Telles, I was going to say Felipe for some reason .
Shaws game had improved before we signed telles but but for me he was still not at the standard I rated. I remembered a lot of people rated him and that was one of my biggest frustration, that i just couldn't see why
That is all in the past and I am glad I was wrong

Good article... Could add Greenwood in as part of the English contingent that is hitting form too.

Luke Shaw is having the season of his life... His confidence all over the pitch is amazing, some of the things he does when he is close to our own corner flag shows a player at the peak of their confidence... He just makes everything look easy right now, regardless of the pressure on him.

I liked at one point towards the end when Hendo was vocally instructing players to move up the pitch... Just that added bit of instruction that the team needs. His two sweeper keeper moments were great too. I still think he can improve in areas before he is a cert for #1, but it's hard to ignore his plus points.

Maguire, he's exactly what we bought and has far more good games than bad. You are 100% right that people need to move on from the fee and just appreciate he is a quality CB who commands his role and can also bring the ball out well.

Both of those shots were straight at him. He was never going to reach the ball for their goal with his legs. Henderson had to cover half the goal to reach for that shot adn there was a chance he could have got his hands to the ball had he used them instead of his feet

Shaw probably hasn't been our most important player this season in terms of key contributions, but if you looked at average rating out of 10 over the season, I suspect he'd come out top by quite a quite comfortable margin.

Nowt to do with nationality - which is an entirely abstract, socially constructed, concept anyway - but yes Shaw and Maguire were quality yesterday. But that's largely because since arriving (and before) they were (and remain) genuine quality. So thats not really 'new' information to the those of us that are gifted with more insight.

It might be a bit of a shock to the usual tw@ts I will acknowledge.

As for Henderson, the evidence has yet to be gathered.

'Hope' is not a science, and nor is 'optimism'. And being a better goalkeeper than Coco is NOT reason enough alone to warrant being the no1 at one of the greatest sports clubs on the planet. I will reserve judgement (as i always do) until the volume of evidence indicates one thing or another.

Within the bigger picture however, without United's current 6 most useful contributors: Maguire, Shaw Fred, Pogba, Cavani and Fernandes (ably aided by Matic, AWB and dvdb) the club's fortunes would be looking pretty grim. And thats what the club need to build around. Cavani's age is clearly a deficit, but losing him without employing equal or better (and younger) would just be yet another retrograde step - up there with sacking smalling and Lukaku .

I don't care one iota for a player's 'nationality', just whether they are good enough, and right enough, to contribute to the club's success.

It did. But eventually he will drop a high ball or fluff a sweeper keeper clearance, and then people will be complaining about that.

A good game but i wouldnt go as far as to say he was, or has been outstanding for us yet.
