City coming in and chucking a billion at a mediocre team to win the PL is no issue to me, just as it wasn't when Roman did it.

but, when these artificial clubs are created that makes it far harder for the lesser teams to compete than Man United getting a record Chevrolet deal.

That Chevvy deal was bent though neither side will admit it.

The guy who struck the deal was promptly sacked, Chevrolet even had to scale down their Manchester Dealership a couple of years later due to lack of sales.

and the 400m Etihad deal in 2011 was as straight as an arrow I guess?

in fairness the PL did their best to try create equality, sharing TV revenues etc

however they cant stop a Chinese noodle bran handing man united 50m. those sponsorship deals are directly related to the success and marketing of teams.

I mean should United split their sponsorship deals equally with the rest of the football pyramid?

The likes of United, Liverpool, Arsenal got to three they were through success on the field. did it then create a power issue, sure, but that was going to happen when the pL went global.

Even the Chevrolet deal pales into insignificance compared to the money a decent CL run gets a club.

Both make it harder. We’re a prime example of how much money it takes to properly compete and have sustained success at the top as a consequence though. Look what happens to clubs before. Newcastle get close, then United sign their best player. Leeds risk it all, nearly kill themselves completely in trying to do it and United then sign their best player. Even Arsenal with Wengers third iteration, United still are able to get their best player.

It’s a closed shop either way. Opening it back up again needs properly looking at all of it across the board.

£200m for a new training with Eithad on the roof and directly on the flightpath to Manchester Airport.

£200m paid over 10 years for shirt and stadium naming rights (5th highest in the league)

Yes, the people who struck the deal seriously undersold the club and should be sacked.

MOTD ripping it to shreads and blaming United

Rio on BT and Neville on Sky doing the same thing.

Pretty obvious which club wants a US style franchise system in place more than anyone else.

Format:

15 founding clubs + 5 teams qualifying each season based on achievements in prior season

Midweek fixtures

Starting in August teams are sorted into two groups of ten where they each play home and away. Top 3 from each group are guaranteed in the quarter finals with the 4th and 5th placed team playing a 2 legged tie where the winner also enters the quarter finals

It’s all just wrong. Be interesting to see who the three other founding members would be. Assuming they were hoping Bayern, Dortmund and PSG.

Let’s see what happens first eh?

You may have a point, but he’d have to backtrack. Though I did wonder if sky editorially pushed him that way, it did seem that was genuine disgust, and what he said was spot on, either way.

He is furious because it will generate views. Just another sky puppet.

Of course he will happily commentate on this "criminal" tournament

This. He has to toe the sky line in being furious because of how it will negatively affect them. He'll be praising it like there's no tomorrow if he gets hired by the channel that would stream it.

Yes, yes.

He is telling the footballers and coaches to stop this, e.g. going on strike.

I don't remember him striking when the Glazer pigs took over united
