Clubs don’t really sign players based on international tournaments nowadays. Scouting is so much more sophisticated than it used to be that it’s not that relevant to making a signing. Even the players in the op were scouted - and signed in the case of the Liverpool lads - before the tournament.

Oh.

Wouldn't be surprised if North Macedonia qualify through their group and are that under-the-radar team that every tournament has, so keep an eye out for Eljif Elmas.

Yeah definitely more sophisticated. We're able to look at a lot of players for one position, like 804 full backs before we signed AWB

The difference made by tournaments now is less about what we know about players, and more about their public profile, which feeds into their commercial value. A buying club probably goes into a tournament hoping that their target players avoid injury but don't score any goals.
