BBC coverage

Thought the pundits and the commentators were excellent. In terms of the broadcast, it’s normal for the feed to stay from within the stadium, just not to cut to specific images like the ones they did yesterday. The bbc would have had no prior warning to that.

They maybe could have cut a little sooner but it’s really not the thing to focus on.

Think whatever the BBC had done would have been criticised. Cut to black and people would be upset they weren't being kept abreast of what was happening and if he was okay. Cut to another show and they'd be criticised for the choice of show they cut to. Pretty clear that those in the studio wouldn't have been able to keep going much longer than they did, as they were on the brink of tears.

Impossible situation for all involved, and with the benefit of hindsight we can say they probably should have cut earlier, but they are also watching this real time, likely in some form of shock, not really knowing what's happening etc. Using it as a stick to attack the BBC or specific individuals is not helpful, and borders on sick, to me.

The BBC are disgraceful for not cutting the feed and going back to the studio. There needs to be a full public enquiry... this was real life not Line Of Duty. Showing his wife pitch side in turmoil was just cruel

Idiot. Number 1 outrage culture, Wum appears.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sociopath. Put yourself in the shoes of Eriksen’s family. They would’ve had to watch every second of that. Try to imagine how they would’ve felt watching on as Eriksen appeared dead. Do you not understand what empathy is???
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Putting myself in their shoes I'd probably want to watch it to see if he is OK. I'd feel even worse if they'd switch away and I have no clue what happened next.

What did the BBC get 'wrong'.

They were broadcasting the live feed they were receiving no doubt from a Danish TV company, as the unknown was unfolding. Linekar, Fabragas and Scott were quite clearly upset and didnt really know what to say. Eventually the BBC abandoned their Euro20 programme and started broadcasting an episode of that Pop Quiz which they interrupted in turn to broadcast the remaining half of the game when it was decided to play the rest of the game out.

The BBC have continued to broadcast on occasions before at football tragedies. Hysel and Hillsborough come to mind and thank God they did. In this one nobody died thankfully.

Some people just don't like the BBC and need to bash it. The ITV would have got Sofology to sponsor the feed.

Spot on...hit on the nail.
Players being treated the pitch happen all the time.
The knowledge that something serious is happening slowly dawns on us. It takes time for the order to cut away to be given.
Attacking the BBC is more self advertising than genuine outrage .

Agree with this in the main. I also thought the commentators and pundits handled it well, and there were almost certainly conversations going on about what should be done. And, as said below, they might have been criticised for not showing it.

I think they did have some warning here though, when the Danish players formed a ring for privacy. Even then, my issue isn’t with the coverage, it’s with a) the mistaken belief that if you watched it, you can’t criticise those who showed it; and b) the statement, which I feel made the BBC look worse and not better.

And Alex Scotts' red skirt was far too short. You could see right up to her knickers.

Think they were a bit stuck with the statement though as there were a lot of people yesterday thinking the bbc had direct control of the cameras in the stadium too, they did have to correct that in some way (not that it will make much difference in those peoples minds anyway)

Then they said too much, not too little. Explaining that somebody else was responsible for the footage makes perfect sense. Saying that you cut it only when the game was suspended (and not before) was unnecessary and, as I say, probably worse than saying nothing.

If that was my son or daughter collapsed and receiving treatment and I was hundred of miles away, id want to see what was happening and would have been so thankful for the the care and attention he was given by his teammates, supporters and medical staff.

If you watched the footage, then you have no grounds to whinge about it being inappropriate in my opinion.

People kept on watching because they were all hoping and praying to see the he was going to be OK. That doesn't mean that it was right for the BBC to keep broadcasting what was going on. I was at a bbq with lots of kids there. As soon as we realised he was being given CPR we turned the TV off, but it was too late by then really. It shouldn't have got that far.

Why not switch off at the point he collapsed, clearly in serious difficulty?

Genuinely, if it was your son or daughter battling for their life, would you want that being broadcast to the world? I'd certainly want to be kept fully abreast of the situation but I'd think there would be better lines of communication than being glued to a tv screen

I don't know what situation you are envisaging here where the only way you'd know what was happening to your kid is through watching it on the tv. It's absolutely mental! You would be kept up to date of exactly what was happening at all times, I'm pretty sure. Eriksen's kin will have known his medical condition before we saw his eyes open on that stretcher. So why come up with such a bizarre and unrealistic analogy?

I am shocked that people are defending the BBC here. They should’ve cut the broadcast immediately, no questions asked.
