I already said pretty much that he may not be the guy who wins us a top competition but I’m not really bothered about that right now.
I want a full rebuild and I’d say he’s 75% done on that front.
A CB & CDM and we’ll be looking very dangerous, even to the likes of City.

The bookies still have us as 4th favourites and I think that's about right. Watching our first choice right back in preseason is giving me flashbacks of the end of last season when he really struggled with concentration issues. I can see why we are being linked with Trippier. Add deficiencies at CB and in midfield (possibly going to be exacerbated by a potential Pogba departure) and I think we're still not as strong as City, Liverpool (who I think will reclaim the title) and Chelsea.
I just don’t think winning smaller trophies is as important to the club as is made it. If we are challenging for the title but just fall short, and do well in the CL, I don’t think a failure to win a domestic cup would dictate his place as manager. Not next season anyway.
And whilst I think we should change manager, I can understand why that wouldn’t be a sackable offence. We’ve not got past the quarters of the CL or challenged for the title since Fergie retired. Would be harsh to sack him for the team being unable to get over the line at when there’s some very good teams in the prem and CL.
At some point we have to get past the par expectations from a fan perspective. If we get Varane and say, Trippier to add to Sancho and the rest I’d say our squad isn’t far off, it not equal to what Liverpool had a couple of seasons ago when they pushed City all the way.
A manager who can take a squad above their ‘par’ expectations is what we would need if Ole can only keep us marching on the spot.
The context matters, though. What Liverpool did is kind of irrelevant, it’s unprecedented and (despite their protestations) relied on some unbelievable luck to drag the team up to where it was.
If City get Kane and are back at the level they were a couple of years ago, a failure to compete with that - and break our club record points total to achieve this - isn’t really a sackable offence.
Yeah I would go as far to say adding Varane and Trippier would give United the most well balanced squad in the league, but not necessarily the best.
Tripper/AWB at right back, attacking and defensive right back for different situations
Varane/Maguire at centre back. Up there with the best partnership in the league.
Shaw/Telles
Pogba and Bruno are top quality creators in the league, with journeymen like Mctominay, Fred and Matic to balance the defensive aspects.
Sancho/Greenwood for the right to stretch the field
Cavani/Martial up front. Both can score goals despite Martials struggles last season
Rashford/one of your younger talents like Pellestri or Diallo
And you still have Lingard banging around who's shown he can be effective in the middle.
Thats balanced.

That's a lot of quality talent throughout the squad, if he doesn't win something this season then serious questions should be asked. Its probably the best United side since Fergie left.

wait til the Window shuts, cos that might have different look about it. But agreed, we should be pushing for honours. But i'm not bothered about winning a trophy just for the sake of it, when there's cracks to be filled.
Build a solid team that is consistant.. everything else will follow.

I think the more serious questions will be asked over our ability to compete for the league and CL. From the people at the top anyway, less so the fans.
Winning lesser cups didn’t save Van Gaal or Mourinho, and we’ll have invested more in this team - both financially and in terms of time - than they had.

Especially if you add Varane to it. If he can't sustain a challenge and get some silverware with that then he should be sacked imo.

The bookies still have us as 4th favourites and I think that's about right. Watching our first choice right back in preseason is giving me flashbacks of the end of last season when he really struggled with concentration issues. I can see why we are being linked with Trippier. Add deficiencies at CB and in midfield (possibly going to be exacerbated by a potential Pogba departure) and I think we're still not as strong as City, Liverpool (who I think will reclaim the title) and Chelsea.

I just don’t think winning smaller trophies is as important to the club as is made it. If we are challenging for the title but just fall short, and do well in the CL, I don’t think a failure to win a domestic cup would dictate his place as manager. Not next season anyway.
And whilst I think we should change manager, I can understand why that wouldn’t be a sackable offence. We’ve not got past the quarters of the CL or challenged for the title since Fergie retired. Would be harsh to sack him for the team being unable to get over the line at when there’s some very good teams in the prem and CL.

At some point we have to get past the par expectations from a fan perspective. If we get Varane and say, Trippier to add to Sancho and the rest I’d say our squad isn’t far off, it not equal to what Liverpool had a couple of seasons ago when they pushed City all the way.
A manager who can take a squad above their ‘par’ expectations is what we would need if Ole can only keep us marching on the spot.

The context matters, though. What Liverpool did is kind of irrelevant, it’s unprecedented and (despite their protestations) relied on some unbelievable luck to drag the team up to where it was.
If City get Kane and are back at the level they were a couple of years ago, a failure to compete with that - and break our club record points total to achieve this - isn’t really a sackable offence.

Yeah I would go as far to say adding Varane and Trippier would give United the most well balanced squad in the league, but not necessarily the best.
Tripper/AWB at right back, attacking and defensive right back for different situations
Varane/Maguire at centre back. Up there with the best partnership in the league.
Shaw/Telles
Pogba and Bruno are top quality creators in the league, with journeymen like Mctominay, Fred and Matic to balance the defensive aspects.
Sancho/Greenwood for the right to stretch the field
Cavani/Martial up front. Both can score goals despite Martials struggles last season
Rashford/one of your younger talents like Pellestri or Diallo
And you still have Lingard banging around who's shown he can be effective in the middle.
Thats balanced.
