Quite a few outlets reporting we're close.

This does feel different to the Ramos 'deal' a few years back but, as ever, won't get carried away. It could well be close but things can change.

It'd be a really good signing IMO. It seems the fee would be around £38m as well which is a good price IMO.

Ya it does seem different to Ramos. Madrid also seem to be a sinking ship right now unlike when we were linked with Ramos.

This story seems to have legs in it. Going by the people reporting I'd be surprised if it doesn't happen from here.

Should be a good signing - on paper you'd struggle to hand pick a more suitable partner for Maguire. With CBs especially though you never can really tell how they'll do in a new environment.

38 million is a good price. He isn't what he was 3-4 years ago but considering what 38 million gets you these days, you cannot go wrong.

True. I don’t see him coming in and having a Van Dijk or Ruben Dias impact but he is a clear upgrade on Lindelof and Bailly and as you said for that price it’s hard to go wrong.

If he does join it'd be good to have a real winner in the squad as well. Hopefully, he'll demand high standards.

He isn’t what he was 4 years ago, for sure. Hopefully he’s learned a thing or two, shouldn’t have lost too much pace yet. But that will be seen quite quickly. And we all know it can go any time.

I think he makes a good partner for Maguire. He has the Ferdinand about him and Maguire is certainly more Vidic.

I’m very happy with our business so far.

Providing this comes good

100m-ish for the pair is good.

Hope we get a couple more and lose a couple.

This although you could flip that and say does a player who has 4 CL’s, a World Cup and a few leagues still have the hunger to win more or is he here for a pay day?

True. If you asked our fans to hand pick transfer at the start of the summer I’m sure Varane and Sancho would have been on many lists.

And hopefully this signing will give Lindelof a kick up the backside. Obviously competition, although Varane is a straight starter.
Hopefully Lindelof will be adding strength training to his routine. He’s a good option off the bench. But he is a International player entering his peak years.

And we’ll definitely need the squad depth for this season, with The Quadruple as our aim.

For all the stick he gets Lindelof is certainly a decent 3rd choice.

Playing with Varane may suit him more than Maguire too.

Should be a very good signing.

Obviously a major feat, but one we have to have our eyes on to eclipse ‘99.

Not sure a player who is prone to downing tools would achieve what he’s achieved.

Not impossible of course, but this guy could be looking at being one of the most decorated ever. Would seem strange to give up now.

And some may see Madrid as the pinnacle. Lots do, in fact. They also see United as the very next step down, so he’s hardly retired to China coming to us.

back to back PL/CL doubles should do that nicely, leave the smaller trophies to the smaller clubs

Yes and hopefully learn a few things from him.

Seeing Chorley go a few steps further in the FA Cup would be good

Although seeing Lole Lolskjaer do a quad would be brilliant on here.

I had doubts about how much our recruitment would improve but if we can get Varane over the line which it seems like we will then we'll have had an excellent summer so far and you'd have to hand it to our recruitment team for managing to secure at least two of our main targets before the Premier League starts and in a major tournament year as well.

Let's not spoil the window though by signing players like Rice or Neves.

hmm, not sure the residents of cornwall would agree with that:

I think it's likely to be closer to €50 million so around £42-43 million.

That's still not a bad price for a player of Varane's quality.
