Biggest disappointment for me is Llorente & Koch.
Llorente in particular. He's a great player. But, if neither
one can actually get on the pitch consistently, they're
useless. Like them both. However, looking like shocking
waste of resources right now. It's put unnecessary
pressure on Ayling & Cooper.

No real argument with that

Tyler Roberts not meh, absolutely awful footballer, little glimpses here and there but he does nothing, would get nowhere near any other squad in this division. We need to get shot in January. He is a striker that has scored 17 goals in 126 career appearances. Shocking.

Neither known for having a poor record injury wise. Bielsa has to look at this.

personally i thought st maximum apart we made newcastle look ordinary but poor finishing cost us. think we all know now we have too many championship standard players in this team to move to next level. MB may be a genius but not a miracle worker

Bielsa’s loyalty to Roberts is unfathomable. He can’t score and he can’t create chances - so what is his purpose?

We all love Ayling, Coops and Klich so I hate to say it but they’re being exposed as the championship players they are.

I was beginning to think I was the only one who sees that Roberts adds nothing when he comes on. ( Cue Lubo to knee jerk and defend him) As my mate said at the Liverpool game “ If Roberts is the answer, what the hell is the question”
Still no need to panic, yet, but West Ham will be no walk in the park so need to keep our nerves. MOT!

You say Newcastle made us look ordinary but then list chances that we missed. We created a lot of good chances, the performance first half and second half until the subs, which killed it, was very good. Just didn’t convert those chances which is concerning.

Rodrigo had a good game.

Only thing Newcastle have is Saint Maximan, he is a brilliant player. Without him, they are bottom of the league material.

These were chances that we were nowhere near taking advantage of.

The best chance we had after our goal was near own goal header that their keeper saved.

Conversely, Meslier made at least 2 match saving saves

Personally thought we were very good for large parts of the game and feels like 2 points lost.
Made by far the better chances on the night but poor finishing has cost us dear. A very good penalty claim denied also.
Game management was poor. At 1up and approaching half time and seeing how ASM was tearing us one i was saying for 10-15 minutes how we needed to slow the game down and keep the lead until half time. We know Bielsa likes 1-1 defending but surely ASM needed to be doubled up once we got ahead. Not enough tactical fouls. Think we got a lot better at this second half of season but we seem happy to allow players to run past us again.
Frustrated. Very frustrated and the league table makes me feel ill.

Roberts played a few games for the U23's last season, didn't score many from open play, didn't look like scoring many from open play, as senior pro he insisted on taking penalties. Bielsa likes him but I cannot see why.

3 leeds players i dont think i have ever criticised who give their all week after week and really could add bamford ,dallas, harrison to that list and wouldnt be far of the mark but on their day and even on their off days offer a lot more than most PL players do because they have been coached to play football by a genius but you can only squeeze so much juice out. if MB wants to win this league he needs to sign up mid table prem league players as opposed to mid table championship players . Sad i know but true and we are all too sentimmental about some of these players cos of what they have done and achieved for us but at the end of the day we need better to move forward. Been a great ride with these players but we really need better to move to next level. dont mean i wont love all these guys (maybe roberts and costa) but club is bigger than any of them

Roberts is just not a number 10, winger or any other position apart from striker Bielsa plays him. Let's give Gelhardt or Greenwood a chance now off the bench, Roberts has had his and in Jonty's words looks meh.

After the James penalty decision went against us and poor finishing wasting a glut of gilt edged opportunities a draw was all we deserved.

Maximan is a joy to watch and no doubt he will play for a top champions league team next season. He alone will keep Newcastle up and I think we will scrape to about 48 points which is a lot less than I thought but just staying up is the main thing and James and Firpo will take a little time but I think will come good and we'll get Struiyk back soon and Lorente too so defensively things should calm down.

Next match I think we are going to have to play KP alongside Cooper as injuries are just crazy.
That may mean that El Loco will actually play 3 recognised midfielders but apart from Klich and Shackleton who else do we have other than a u23.midfielder? or does Bielsa blood Cresswell and keep KP where he is? Most probably he will continue with 2 midfielders and a third winger or 2nd forward in midfield.

A poor summer recruitment is catching up with us.

Thought it was an excellent game tonight. We will be more than safe this season.

The thing that worries me is we go on about the under 23s all the time and though I dont mind Roberts if Gelhardt etc arent considered better now than I'm not sure there's any hope for them, we are talking about the PL now and half the England squad are their age or were when they first played plus the fact they aren't allowed out on loan doesmt help their development

Was a brilliant game, thoroughly enjoyed it, Maximan was a joy to watch, as good as Raph is to watch. Rodrigo was excellent, James should have cost 2.5 and that bench was horrendous for an elite level football club. Fair result overall.

"Lost our mojo" - exactly the words I was using when watching the latter part of the match tonight.

As soon as Roberts came on, I knew we weren't going to get any more goals. He really needs to be preparing the oranges for half time rather than being on the bench. Every pass was either out of play or to an opponent. My Gran could do better and she's been dead for 30 years.

Sadly, it's a relegation scrap for us this year. We seem really pedestrian and single-paced now. We have only one idea - attack down the wings. Previous seasons we were passing the ball around the edge of the penalty box like the Harlem Globetrotters and scoring from all over the place and all over the team.

I really can't see where or why we've lost our mojo. Our only hope is MB can.

There is a worrying element of predictability about us this season, and one by one, the other Premier League teams have learned to take advantage of it.

Where our midfielders were flowing in exchanging passes last year, there is a sense of the link up play being much more disjointed. Our attacking moves are broken up far too easily, far too often, requiring only minimal press to do so, much of the time.

Watching Villa v Leeds from last season highlights how teams have now figured out how to neutralise many of our attacks, if not to break them up entirely.

Certainly not time to panic, but conversely, time for Bielsa to have a long session figuring how he is going to get us out of this mini rut which as a minimum can describe as a difficult start to the season.

I think our lost mojo in these first 5 games is what is worrying a lot of fans. Some fans do not see any cause for worry but the sluggish start we have made to the season all be it ravaged by key injuries and an unjust suspension sets the tone for the whole campaign like how you start a match usually determins the final result.

Last night we should have been out of sight with our first 20 minute dominance which wasn't helped by VAR not intervening and grabbing the attention of Mike Dean for what was a stonewall penalty.

Had we got that 2nd I feel with the home crowd frustration becoming louder and our players confidence
increasing we would have run out comfortable winners.

But setting aside the rejected James assault in the penalty box Bamford to me looks a shadow of last seasons player which I fear is due to playing in front of full stadiums again. I hope I'm wrong because a few others and Harrison who didn't play have been very disappointing too.

However I still see enough quality in our side plus our saviour Bielsa will keep our heads above water but it will be not as pretty as last season and we must try and get a couple of new midfielders in the January window because our midfield apart from about 20-25 minutes last night is being cut through and dominated with ease.

Newcastle were very poor (Saint-Maximin apart) but we still could not manage a win. We need to take maximum points from games like these as there are much harder games to come. West Ham next and they did us twice last season when we were playing better than we are now.

Lost our mojo?
Had Barnes been sent off and James got the penalty we could be sat here on 7 points now and sat in 09th spot. Small margins.
We were the better side away to Burnley and didn’t make the most of several chances through a poor last pass or poor ball control
We created the better chances against Newcastle and a penalty award gives us a great chance of being 2-0 up.

Dallas klitch Ayling all looking poor. Bamford and Cooper having the odd moments. Extremely harsh criticism of these guys given the last 3 years, but harsh reality is some of these are good squad players rather than consistent first teamers at the highest level

Losing our mojo: there's a theory that the repetition of the extremely demanding training sessions over several seasons are now blunting rather than sharpening the players' appetites and performances on match day. What do you all think about that?

Bringing off Raphinha and bringing on Roberts was a mistake. Roberts is not good enough at this level in that position.

Well played Cooper, Ayling, and Meslier who kept us in it. St Maximin is a top striker and they did well to limit him to just the one.

Disappointing overall, again. West Ham next? That is now a must-win game.

It is early days and I agree that a win last night would have us sitting more comfortably, but it’s clear to see that we aren’t firing on all cylinders this season so far.

Our play appears one-paced. We don’t play with the same intensity of previous seasons and seem to be lacking any creativity. There are a lot more long balls being played it feels. KP was the only player last night to play his normal quality of game. Rodrigo improved a little, but missed a couple of chances he should have buried.

I wonder how much we are missing our wildcard in Alioski? Again it’s early days, but Firpo seems to be much weaker in attack than he was and not much better in defence.
