Fuel ⛽

Does everyone really need their car for every journey? Cutting car use is a good thing. But at the end of the day the majority of people are fat and lazy so will continue to create congestion and air pollution. Then blame others whilst sitting in a traffic jam, taking up space and blowing out murderous toxins.

Does everyone here NEED to take their car to a supermarket to do shopping? Do you NEED to drive to work? It would be interesting to see if there was an actual fuel shortage for a few weeks, how people adapted their travel behaviour. You may find that you don't NEED to drive everywhere.

Exactly. If you live and work in a city, then you do not need a car. No excuses.

It’s a democratic society

You can choose to drive but you’ll run into the risk of getting stuck in traffic, that’s the guys decision so he’ll have to suck it up

Or you can bike your way around and get run over by a lorry, again your choice but nobody will be responsible but yourself

Does one choose to drive everywhere? If so when fuel shortages happen they have a suck it up

If one chooses to do something he can have the benefits and consequences, but you can’t stop someone doing something within the law

This, especially since the ruling that emissions contributed to that small girls death

For years I have chosen to cycle anywhere I can get to within 15 minutes on the bike, recently I bought an E-bike and now will cycle up to 30/40 mins quite happily.

I love how everybody is blaming sneaky corporations, the media and government.

How about taking a look in the facking mirror and having some sense of personal responsibility. Pathetic nation we are.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This was entirely engineered by one right wing publication, as a result of stupid government policy.

In response the government have bizarrely removed competition law, like that's suddenly going to unstick the issue.

It's opportunism to drive corporate profits, all because of one article from the Murdoch owned sun. People are predictable idiots, like sheep we are easily driven to panic.

I think you just don't like the government getting the blame.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Love how people are finding the need to politicise what is nothing but stupidity from the common citizen.

You cannot blame the government for everything, especially to excuse one's poor personal behaviour.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a shortage of drivers ffs, that was getting worse by the day, as a consequence of Brexit, Government policy.

It's not hard to see is it, that an already undersubscribed industry, with more jobs than workers, and more leaving than joining was going to have issues.

So yes, at first it was just BP, and the sun published a stupid article to cause a panic, but engage that giant brain of yours and think about how the shrinking workforce would probably have started to impact other suppliers, and BP would probably have started poaching drivers by offering higher wages.

Follow all of that through, the panic buying was an INEVITABILITY due to circumstances caused by our government. The sun lit the match, but the government supplied the circumstances
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The "shortage of drivers" that caused less than a dozen temporary forecourt closures in the UK.

It is the fault of the general public's stupidity that this has exploded into the issue it is. Nobody else.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually, it’s the like of BP deliberately causing a stir, and the media for printing it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's actually no fuel shortages per se, as there's plenty in the country (refineries etc). But due to a lack of lorry drivers, it cannot be delivered to petrol stations.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Seen several comments on social media that BP are the only garage that are struggling to get deliveries, yet only 6 garages out of 1200 didn't receive there deliveries. One garage owner (Shell) even said that they have no shortage at all and there deliveries are coming in just fine
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Petrol Retailers Association (as of yesterday) stated that two thirds of their members (5,500 out of 8k petrol stations in the UK) were out of fuel.

From Leytonstone to Peckham there are queues outside all the stations (those that are actually open), some queues longer than others but all snarling up the traffic as they leak onto the roads.
My fleet manager has advised all vans to fill up as and when they can.

But but but the media...

If one chooses to live in London and thinks the air quality is sheit, he’s free to move to Kent where they have a lot more oxygen

Of 10 people 9 people would probably suck it up why should the government care if one person doesn’t like it

Complaining about air quality choking over it where you live is like buying a house next to the motorway and complaint it’s so noisy you can’t sleep and you expect the council to do something about it

Yeah remember the attitude of not wanting to go into a pub because you'd choke on smoke, then being told just to not go into a pub then. Or restaurant. Or train. Or anything where people are allowed to smoke?

Can't walk along my street now without choking on someone else's exhaust fumes. I am suffering the consequences of some fat, lazy cant and they are suffering none of the consequences. The only fair way would be to gather up their exhaust fumes from my street and post them through their letter box. Then they see the consequences of their choices, not me. You can disagree with that solution if you like, but it's correct and it should be car drivers choking on their selfish choices.

Do people still choose to smoke in pubs? Or what did they do about that? How about Low Emissions Zones? Do people still choose to drive their polluting cars there? Living in London can be quite dangerous because you can get stabbed, but it's that person's democratic right to stab you so you shouldn't complain.

Living in London can be quite dangerous because you can get stabbed, but it's that person's democratic right to stab you so you shouldn't complain.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I did say within the laws so maybe it’s lawful to stab someone in your world. You can choose not to live in east and south London or wear expensive watches making your a target for starters. We choose the way we live, nobody is entitled to anything

And yeh I’m sure people do still drive their polluting cars there, just like they tried to get rid of more cars by hiking congestion charge by an extra fiver a day plus weekends, people will pay for it and keep on driving, you can’t stop them

Barry....on yer bike son...there's a good lad
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. If you live and work in a city, then you do not need a car. No excuses.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm one of the worst offenders mind...all of my journeys to work, golf, bowling & shopping are all 3 miles max
I feel ashamed of myself

The first step is recognising that you are the problem, so well done.

Oh great...that's a weight off

It’s a democratic society

You can choose to drive but you’ll run into the risk of getting stuck in traffic, that’s the guys decision so he’ll have to suck it up

Or you can bike your way around and get run over by a lorry, again your choice but nobody will be responsible but yourself

Does one choose to drive everywhere? If so when fuel shortages happen they have a suck it up

If one chooses to do something he can have the benefits and consequences, but you can’t stop someone doing something within the law
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't choose to choke on people's emissions. It's like smoking.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If one chooses to live in London and thinks the air quality is sheit, he’s free to move to Kent where they have a lot more oxygen

Of 10 people 9 people would probably suck it up why should the government care if one person doesn’t like it

Complaining about air quality choking over it where you live is like buying a house next to the motorway and complaint it’s so noisy you can’t sleep and you expect the council to do something about it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would you complain if you were living out in Kent or wherever and I came and took my dog for a shiite outside your front door twice a day, then left it on your doorstep? You would of course be free to move.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You do that to someone they’d probably move, people move for less

My point is in a democratic world like ours you can’t make people get off roads like you wish, by being democratic you give people the choice (to not be stupid but that’s an entirely different convo)
