I watch a yt channel that covers UK sitcoms in painstaking detail and he dug up footage of US remakes for Peep Show(there’s actually been two Peep Show pilots made in the US) and People Just Do Nothing

They were not good

There's an American pilot of the IT crowd that is the first episode remade line for line and even has Richard Ayode play Moss, but everyone else is an American actor. Most pointless remake ever.

Will never understand why they remake shows but don't change it to make it relevant to the targeted audience.

Oh yeah they cast Joel McHale for that right?

Which makes no sense as he is way too good looking for that character and literally went on to play Jeff in Community who was cast as good looking

The first one was plot hole after plot hole, but it made up for it for just being a unique, classic.

But this makes even less sense today, with EVERYONE having phones, cctv, even a door bell which records everyone's every move and this kid probably more understanding of technology than his parents, especially the fact he clearly must sit inside on his devices all day, looking at how unhealthy and overweight he is.

They tried to make an American version of Only Fools. I don’t think it even got to pilot as it was obviously such a bad idea.

If we are including reboots then i guess Silence of the Lambs counts?

Red Dragon isnt better than Manhunter though imo
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I watched red dragon first and it ruined man hunter for me

I knew it was a remake but even the dialogue seemed to be a complete copy so I turned man hunter off but been told by a few people it’s excellent

Some things like Oldboy made no sense

That didnt need a western remake, it was internationally popular

I enjoyed both versions but preferred the original

The fight scene when they are attacking him out of the elevator is fantastic . Very brutal

A lot of the live action remakes by Disney are quite bad, Mulan in particular was terrible.

I can only presume they know they’ll make money from people watching it just to see how sh/te it is. Otherwise there’s no explanation for anybody thinking this was a good idea.

Manhunter’s great, it’s Michael Mann! Thief, Manhunter and Heat are f-cking superb.

It’s not a remake like the ones referenced in the op is it? The characters are all different, it’s just the premise that’s similar

Dredd with Karl Urban was pretty good imo.

Ghosbusters with women, the tripe, all remakes with women, makes no sense to me.

not to mention tom noonan and iron butterfly

Let's be clear.
There is virtually no US film, sitcom, TV programme, advert, book, beer, car, that is as good as a UK equivalent.

Worst remake? - Willy wonka

Fortunately I watched Manhunter before Red Dragon, but after Silence of the Lambs. So it’s weird seeing someone else play Lector.

Dredd is great, so much better than the awful Stallone version. Dredd came out the same time as the Raid which was pretty much the same concept.

They remade 'V' around 2009 and that was OK.

Kickboxer reboot. Van Damme even put his name to it.
